Manufacturing Engineer (3 BRAND NEW ROLES AVAILABLE DUE TO GROWTH!)
The role of Production Engineer in Spring Grove, IL involves developing, implementing, and maintaining methods, processes, and costs to support the company's customers and employees. The Production Engineer will collaborate closely with department supervisors and other company departments to continuously improve operations, apply lean principles, and implement best practices. They will propose and implement enhancements or modifications to enhance safety, quality, processes, and costs.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide manufacturing support by using disciplined problem-solving techniques (such as fishbone diagrams, 6s, value stream mapping, job safety analysis) for program launches, rework, and continuous improvement projects.
- Show effective leadership by challenging existing processes, inspiring a shared vision, and leading by example.
- Utilize knowledge of current and potential process capabilities and process control limits to enhance quality and assess incoming work.
- Identify and document continuous improvement opportunities to reduce cycle times and minimize scrap and waste.
- Develop financial justifications for capital equipment and process changes.
- Conduct time studies, method analysis, and other work measurement activities.
- Showcase the use of computer simulations to analyze processes and provide input and recommendations for process improvements.
- Act as a resource, offering expert technical assistance and delivering on-the-job training to employees to ensure safe, timely, and cost-effective work execution.
- Achieve key performance measures in safety, quality, cost, productivity, and timely completion of customer orders for the assigned process families.
- Create, update, and maintain routings, work instructions, and blueprints in accordance with customer specifications and quality standards, while optimizing cost efficiency.
- Collaborate across all three plants/shifts to provide continuous support for projects and production.
Qualifications
Required Education & Experience:
- Hold a Bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering/technology or a related field, or possess equivalent experience
- Have a minimum of 2 - 3 years of relevant experience in manufacturing and/or the metals industry
- Possess experience in project management, industrial engineering methods, and technical applications of manufacturing practices
- Demonstrate proficiency in using SolidWorks or other CAD/CAM software and applying Geometrical Tolerance specifications
- Possess excellent communication skills to effectively convey technical issues to internal production and business departments, as well as external vendors and customers
- Show expertise in mathematics and mechanics
- Have extensive experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, and PowerPoint
Preferred Skills
- Possess at least 3 years of applied experience in an Engineering/Technology role in the manufacturing and/or metals industry
- Demonstrate a history of successfully improving Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
- Exhibit knowledge and experience in quality tools and relevant safety regulations
- Have experience in Value Stream Mapping, Time Standards, Line Balancing, and Plant Floor Layout
- Receive training in Lean Manufacturing, Visual Factory, Kanban, Kaizen, and Six-Sigma methods
- Possess materials flow management experience
- Be familiar with ERP or MRP software
