Manufacturing Supervisor – Die Casting

We are an established company located in Auburn, AL, and we hold a significant portion of the U.S. market in our manufacturing sector. Due to our growth, we currently have an opportunity for a Digital Manufacturing Manager to oversee our die casting operations in a plant environment. This position is on the day shift and typically runs from 6:00am to 4:30pm for five days a week, although the hours may vary. In addition to a competitive salary range, we offer an attractive 401K package with a 100% match up to 5%, as well as generous bonus potential based on performance. We also provide relocation assistance for the right candidate. Our die casting environment utilizes multiple machines with varying tonnage for the production of finished products. This role requires strong multitasking skills, as you will be responsible for supervising a team of approximately 20 individuals and providing effective leadership. Troubleshooting die equipment, ensuring quality control, and addressing defects are also key responsibilities of this position. Additionally, you will play a vital role in production planning and scheduling.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

As a Digital Manufacturing Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the operations in the die casting department. This includes ensuring the quality of production, managing employees, maintaining safety regulations, and monitoring daily production standards.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Ensure compliance with safety regulations within the department.
  2. Direct and coordinate the activities of employees in the department.
  3. Resolve worker problems, complaints, or grievances in collaboration with management or subordinates.
  4. Participate in the hiring process, including reviewing credentials, conducting interviews, and making hiring decisions or recommendations.
  5. Train, counsel, and discipline employees in the department.
  6. Coordinate operations and activities with other supervisors
  7. Inspect materials, products, or equipment for defects within the Supervisor’s department.
  8. Maintain Time and Attendance records for the department using Microsoft Dynamics AX.
  9. Analyze production requirements and evaluate current production estimates and outputs based on charts, work orders, and reports.
  10. Maintain organization and cleanliness in the workspace (6s).
  11. Conduct regular cycle counts and inventory controls to ensure accuracy.
  12. Establish work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet goals.
  13. Provide training on equipment operations, work procedures, and safety protocols.
  14. Ensure operators adhere to production or processing standards through monitoring and observation.

DEPARTMENTAL SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (In addition to the above listed duties and responsibilities, the Digital Manufacturing Manager may have departmental specific duties and responsibilities as noted)

Die Cast: (Reports to Plant Manager)

  1. Implement changes in casting cycle times, die lubrication, die preheating, and process parameters to ensure high-quality castings. Assist in troubleshooting machinery within the department as required.
  2. Supervise the operation of various equipment including Die Cast Machines, Trim Presses, Laundry Systems, and Melting Furnaces.
  3. Analyze, organize, and plan production to meet customer needs.
  4. Record and enter data via production reports on a daily basis.
  5. Ensure accurate and timely timekeeping.
  6. Lead and participate in continuous improvement projects, Gemba walks, 6S audits, and layered process audits within the department.
  7. Collaborate with other departments to resolve production-related concerns and implement improvements.
  8. Document training events within the department and ensure proper implementation.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  1. Bachelor's Degree (BA) from a four-year college or university, or three to five years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in High Pressure Die Casting (HPDC), specifically with zinc, aluminum, or equivalent materials. Experience in high pressure aluminum die casting is preferred, but we will consider candidates with other types of die casting experience.
  2. Three to five years of experience in troubleshooting HPDC machinery.
  3. Three to five years of experience in quality control within a die casting environment, with the ability to identify rejects and determine root causes to prevent recurrence.
  4. Three to five years of experience using MRP/ERP software, spreadsheet software, and word processing software.
  5. Experience reading and interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, and effectively communicate before groups of customers or employees.
  6. Familiarity with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions in practical situations
  7. Problem-solving skills and the ability to handle a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists. Can interpret a variety of instructions presented in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear. The role will involve frequent hand movements to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects. Must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
