MARINE ELECTRICIAN

NAUTICAL ELECTRICIAN

$35-38per hour

72-80K + + Bonus + Full Benefits

The Nautical Electrician troubleshoots, fixes, and installs electrical equipment and systems on board boats, onshore installations, and other shore-side facilities. This position is responsible for adhering to established safety protocols while performing assigned tasks to ensure personal safety, colleagues' safety, and the public's safety, and to prevent damage to property. This position is a unionized position represented by the Marine Engineers’ Beneficial Association.

RESPONSIBILITIES

•Design, set up, troubleshoot, and maintain electrical system components

•Identify and repair electro-mechanical and electro-hydraulic devices or systems

•Overhaul electric motors and controllers

•Regularly assess electrical devices for ABS and Coast Guard compliance

•Install or maintain shipboard sound-powered phone systems

•Fix and maintain power distribution switchboards, electrical generators, and other shipboard power distribution components

•Maintain a clean and safe work environment

•Assist other skilled workers in their respective fields

Equipment Used:

oVarious mechanical and pneumatic hand tools

oDrill presses, electric drills and grinders, hydraulic hole punches

oElectric wire and cable strippers and crimpers, wire and cable bundling tools, arbor press

oMotor vehicles including trucks and forklifts

oTwo-way radios, computers, soldering equipment, irons, and torches

oA range of electrical and electronic measuring devices required for diagnosis and repairs

SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

•Proficiency in using various hand tools and measuring devices

•Ability to interpret electrical schematics and blueprints

•Capability to create technical documents and briefings

•Good verbal and written communication skills

•Ability to troubleshoot and repair control circuits

•Knowledge of marine electrical requirements set by the USCG and ABS for the Delaware Bay and vessels

•Competence in installing marine cables and wiring in an approved, organized, and safe manner

•Understanding of safety precautions specific to this field

•Familiarity with the NEC, IEEE, IEC, and other electrical and electronics codes and conventions applicable to vessels

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

•Completion of high school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent relevant experience

•Experience working with shipboard electrical systems

•Experience working on vessels certified by the USCG under Title 46 CFR Subchapters H or I is preferred

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, AND/OR CERTIFICATES

•Possession of a valid driver’s license

•Must apply for and obtain a Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) and Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within 90 days of employment

•Must be willing to attend and successfully complete the following training and obtain the necessary licensing:

▪F.C.C. General Radio Telephone License with Radar Endorsement

▪Sperry Gyro Training

▪Sperry Radar/Radar Unit Training

▪Sperry Antenna

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

•Subject to background investigation and pre-employment physical including drug test

• Requires all employees to have direct deposit with a financial institution or enroll in the payroll card program to receive their biweekly pay

•Must be willing and available for duty at such hours, day or night, as may be required to ensure continuous operation of this facility

•Must be willing to board and work on vessels when necessary

•Ability to lift, carry, and transport heavy equipment and boxes (under 20 lbs.)

•Capability to work on high ladders, aloft, or over the side of vessels

•Capability to work in extreme temperatures (heat or cold) and humidity

•Ability to work in confined spaces that may require the use of a respirator

Ideal Candidate
- Must be a U.S. Citizen (requirement of US Coast Guard for mariner credentials)
- Possess a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
- Demonstrated experience working on vessels certificated by the USCG under Title 46 CFR Subchapters H or I
- F.C.C. General Radio Telephone License with Radar Endorsement
- Demonstrated experience working on Sperry Gyro, Radar, and Antennas.
