Master Toolmaker

Our client is seeking an experienced Master Toolmaker to join their well-established automotive component manufacturing company in Saline, MI.

In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing repairs, modifications, and preventive maintenance on molding tools in a plastic injection molding environment. You will also be responsible for training and developing Toolmakers.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

To be successful in this position, you must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability necessary.

ü Adhere to all safety, health, and environmental procedures, policies, and practices, including proper use of personal protective equipment.

ü Comply with all QMS / EMS / ISO procedures and work instructions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Train and develop Toolmakers/Apprentices and provide feedback on their performance.

2. Assign work and prioritize tasks for Toolmakers.

3. Set up preventative maintenance and repair schedules for tools in coordination with Material Planners.

4. Tear down, clean, inspect, replace parts, grease, and reassemble molds.

5. Perform advanced welding and repair of parting lines and spotting without assistance.

6. Maintain manifolds, hot runners, and valve gates by replacing worn-out components.

7. Operate machinery equipment such as lathe mills, boring mills, and surface grinders for tool repairs.

8. Investigate and troubleshoot manifold issues.

9. Inspect and diagnose tool problems at the press and make decisions on repairs or additional work.

10. Perform engineering changes or repairs using welding and pneumatic tools.

11. Manage inventory of replacement parts for tools.

12. Troubleshoot pneumatic and hydraulic problems and determine corrective actions.

13. Adjust timing of lifters, manifolds, and other tool details requiring precise fitting.

14. Maintain logbook and tooling request forms.

15. Record receipts and shipments of mold tooling on the shared file.

16. Participate in continuous improvement processes.

17. Perform other related functions as required.

REQUIREMENTS:

§ Ability to maintain a team-oriented working environment and promote individual growth.

§ Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, safety rules, policies and procedures, and operating instructions.

§ Basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).

§ Basic computer skills, including PC knowledge.

§ Proficiency in advanced technology software (Mattec, Web-Req Systems, tool repair logging systems).

§ Effective communication skills.

§ Advanced problem-solving capabilities (numerical and mechanical).

§ Proficiency in using various types of tools and equipment (manual, electric, pneumatic, etc.).

§ Advanced mechanical ability and maintenance knowledge.

§ Accurate documentation skills.

§ Proficiency in using precision measuring tools.

§ Ability to work independently and supervise others.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Note: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required for all hires in all positions.

§ 4-year technical degree, Journey Worker Certification, or at least 15 years of equivalent job-related experience.

EXPERIENCE:

§ Minimum of 10 years of demonstrated competency in tooling.

§ Demonstration of leading and mentoring toolmakers in an advanced tooling capacity, preferably in an automotive parts manufacturing environment.
