Salary Range: $90,000 – $120,000

Mechanical Engineer – Plumbing Design
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer with a strong focus on plumbing systems to join the MEP team in the Philadelphia office. This role involves the design and coordination of plumbing systems for commercial, institutional, and industrial projects. The ideal candidate is technically skilled, collaborative, and motivated to deliver innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges.
Key Responsibilities:

Design and develop plumbing systems including domestic water, sanitary, stormwater, natural gas, and specialty piping.

Perform hydraulic calculations, pipe sizing, equipment selection, and layout design in accordance with IPC, ASPE, NFPA, and other standards.

Prepare construction documentation, including drawings, specifications, and equipment schedules.

Coordinate designs with Architects, Structural Engineers, and other disciplines.

Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure compliance with design specifications and local codes.

Support the preparation of proposals, technical reports, and engineering studies.

Review shop drawings and submittals for conformance with design intent.

Participate in client meetings and collaborate with project stakeholders.

Mentor junior engineers and design staff as needed.

Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

Minimum of 3 years of relevant engineering experience, specifically in plumbing design.

FE/EIT certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
PE license is strongly preferred.
-
Experience in commercial, institutional, and industrial project environments.

Advanced proficiency in engineering software, especially Autodesk Revit; CADD/BIM tools a plus.

In-depth knowledge of plumbing codes and standards (IPC, UPC, NFPA 13/14/99, ASHRAE).

Strong fieldwork capabilities, including site surveys and inspections.

Familiarity with fire protection design is a plus.

Membership in ASPE or similar professional organizations is beneficial.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced setting.

Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.

Self-starter with a collaborative mindset and a positive attitude.
