Metallurgist

Metallurgist (carbide)

Compensation: $130,000 – $165,000 + Quarterly Bonus + 12% 401(k) Match
Note: Must have carbide experience

Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Metallurgist with a strong background in carbide materials to lead our laboratory operations. In this high-impact role, you will manage metallurgical processes and testing, provide technical leadership, and collaborate across departments to support product development, quality management, and continuous improvement initiatives. This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled professional to take ownership of the lab and play a pivotal role in driving innovation and maintaining the highest standards of material quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead laboratory operations, supporting the company’s quality management system through expertise in ISO standards and ASTM specifications.

  • Manage and direct Quality department resources to assist plant operations and ensure compliance.

  • Provide technical guidance to Operations for manufacturing processes, equipment capabilities, and product quality improvements.

  • Collaborate with Purchasing to assess raw materials, address non-conforming materials, and support supplier development.

  • Partner with Sales to provide technical support, customer issue resolution, and job bid information; engage directly with customers to resolve quality concerns and provide testing support.

  • Design components with precision and advise on metal suitability for diverse applications; recommend improvements for product feasibility and quality.

  • Conduct both destructive and non-destructive testing for new products and customer applications.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives for new equipment, testing methodologies, and documentation controls.

  • Lead Root Cause and Corrective Action efforts for process deviations, part failures, and quality issues.

  • Represent the company in technical discussions with internal teams, suppliers, and customers.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Material Science, Metallurgy, or a related engineering field.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in materials science or metallurgical roles.

  • Hands-on experience with Tungsten Cobalt powder formulation, pressing, and sintering.

  • Experience with carbide brazing processes.

  • Proven background in wear tool design.

  • HIP sintering experience is a plus.

  • Knowledge of cutting tools and their applications is a plus.

  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and quality management systems software.
