Our children's hospital in San Francisco is well-known for its exceptional care for critically ill infants. As a level IV regional NICU, we provide comprehensive and advanced treatment options to newborns, attracting patients from across the region.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) who will play a pivotal role in delivering expert medical care to critically ill infants in our cutting-edge NICU. This position necessitates exceptional clinical expertise, critical thinking abilities, and effective collaboration with a diverse team of healthcare professionals, including physicians and nurses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform comprehensive assessments of infants, including gathering medical histories, conducting physical examinations, and carrying out diagnostic evaluations.
  • Create and implement personalized treatment plans in collaboration with the medical team.
  • Conduct various medical procedures, such as:
    • Performing intubation and extubation
    • Placing and managing central lines
    • Catheterizing umbilical arteries and veins
    • Administering and interpreting diagnostic tests (e.g., ABGs, blood gases)
    • Administering medications and blood products
  • Monitor infants' progress and make necessary adjustments to treatment plans.
  • Provide education and support to families regarding their infants' conditions and care.
  • Participate in rounds, conferences, and other educational activities.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and research endeavors.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Master's Degree in Nursing with a specialization in Neonatal Nurse Practitioner.
  • Certification: NNP-BC certification is required.
  • Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of recent experience as a Neonate NP in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit OR recent completion of a Neonatal ICU Fellowship.
  • Licensure/Certification:
    • Active and current RN and NP licenses in California.
    • Current national certification from an accepted certifying agency.
    • California driver's license (CDL) may be required for the position.
    • Current AHA BLS and NRP certifications.
    • DEA license required within 90 days of employment.
    • CMS Medicare and Medicaid enrollment required.
  • Other:
    • Demonstrated strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills.
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork abilities.
    • Capability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
    • Ability to excel in a fast-paced and demanding environment.

Schedule:

  • Full-time position with 12-hour shifts
  • Shifts available: Days, evenings, nights, rotating, weekends, holidays

Note: Candidates with less than 6 months of NP experience will be hired as a Nurse Practitioner 1.
