Nurse Manager – Emergency Department

  • POSITION SUMMARY:
    • As the Emergency Department Nursing Supervisor, you will oversee the operations of two emergency departments.
      You will be responsible for implementing strategies and activities to ensure exceptional quality, patient safety, and a positive patient/family experience. This role will focus on fostering staff development, empowerment, and collegial relationships while delivering best practice nursing care. You will allocate resources to promote efficiency, effectiveness, compassion, and fiscal responsibility in nursing care delivery. Additionally, you will coordinate care across departments and promote interdisciplinary collaboration and communication. Recruiting, selecting, and retaining personnel will also be part of your responsibilities. You will ensure appropriate orientation, education, credentialing, and ongoing professional development for all staff under your supervision. The Emergency Department Nursing Supervisor will provide oversight and guidance for the Emergency Department, Hospital Clinical Leaders, and Medic 55 ALS Program.
      • EDUCATION:
        • Minimum:
  • Graduate from an accredited Registered Professional Nurse Program, possessing a Masters in Nursing or related field.
  • LICENSE:
    • Minimum:
  • Hold a current NYS license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse.

    PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS:
      • Minimum:
        • BLS, ACLS, PALS certifications required through the RQI system during clinical orientation.
        • Basic Coronary Care certification within 6 months of hire.
        • CPI certification within 90 days of hire.
        • TNCC certification required within 18 months of hire.
      • Preferred:
  • Obtain Certified Emergency Nursing certification within one year.

WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum:
    • 3-4 years of experience as a registered nurse.
    • At least 18 months of RN experience in an Emergency Department.
  • Preferred:
    • 1 year of management/leadership experience.

SKILLS:
      • Minimum:
        • Moderate sedation competency within six months of starting in this position.
        • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with staff, patients, families, physicians, and other healthcare team members.
        • Proven knowledge in management systems and processes.
        • Demonstrated ability to establish productive work relationships and lead others toward organizational objectives.
        • Analytical skills to assess departmental needs, develop and implement interventions, and evaluate their effectiveness.
        • Ability to manage projects, work under pressure, meet deadlines, and handle multiple priorities while promoting teamwork through effective role modeling.
        • Familiarity with The Joint Commission requirements.
        • Proficiency in computer literacy, including word processing and spreadsheets.
      • Preferred:
        • Experience with Microsoft Office products, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Meditech.
