Nursing Manager, NICU
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Manager
Location: Downey, CA
Salary: 150-200K + Performance Bonus + Sign On Bonus & Relocation Assistance Available!
Work hours are scheduled primarily from 11am to 8pm.
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Manager is responsible for overseeing the delivery of nursing services and ensuring safe patient care within the assigned department and across the continuum of care. They will implement nursing standards of practice, service priorities, and performance measures to add value to the services provided, in alignment with strategic, business, and organizational goals and objectives.
In this role, you will manage a NICU department with 49 beds and an average census of 30+, along with a team of approximately 141 NICU employees. As one of the three Nurse Managers responsible for the NICU, you will work a different shift with some overlap. Additionally, you may be required to cover the Pediatric Unit and PICU as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the delivery of nursing services and safe patient care 24/7, meeting or exceeding cost, quality, clinical, and utilization standards and performance measures.
- Establish, implement, and maintain patient care and service standards that meet the expectations and needs of members and internal clients in a dynamic and competitive healthcare market. Hold staff accountable for providing high-quality care in compliance with Nursing Practice Act, TJC, federal, state, and local requirements.
- Collaborate with Nursing Leadership to develop strategic and business plans for integrated services across the continuum of care. Continuously improve clinical practices, services, and operations within the assigned department and across the continuum of care by designing and implementing evaluation systems, processes, and methods.
- Create and monitor department budgets to effectively allocate human and material resources.
- Monitor financial performance, identify cost reduction strategies, and implement initiatives to enhance the quality of care and services.
- Determine the appropriate staff mix and develop processes for screening, interviewing, hiring, training, and maintaining the competency of department staff. Foster ongoing staff development.
- Develop, implement, and monitor departmental policies and procedures that align with organizational goals and business objectives. Establish standards of care, standards of practice, and quality improvement activities. Oversee fiscal management.
- Resolve human resource and risk management issues.
- Promote an organizational culture of safety by ensuring adherence to patient, employee, and department safety standards and guidelines. Maintain compliance with administrative, legal, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in leadership committees and forums at the Medical Center, Regional, and/or National level.
Minimum Requirements:
- At least five (5) years of clinical nursing experience in a relevant position or department, including three (3) years of management, supervisory, or leadership experience.
- Academic degree in nursing (Bachelor's or Master's degree)
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- BSN and National Health/Nursing Administration Certification or MSN required for PICU and NICU Departments in CCS certified facilities or facilities desiring CCS certification.
- Registered Nurse License in California.
- Basic Life Support certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience with electronic medical records.
- Master's degree.
- National Certification in specialty.
- BSN and RNC-NIC certification.
