Job Description

Occupational Therapists assess patients and deliver skilled intervention in the context of everyday activities. This is done within the patient's own home environment. OTs work closely with a dynamic team, including physical therapists, speech therapists, nurses, social workers, dieticians, and HHAs. The role offers flexibility in working hours and the independence to manage one's own schedule.

Primary Functions:

  • Focus on advancing activities of daily living, preventing falls, conserving energy, and promoting personal care independence. Treatment interventions may involve trials of adaptive equipment, strategies to compensate, progression of range of motion and strength, balance training, advancing functional activities, and educating caregivers.
  • Participate in developing and periodically revising the comprehensive interdisciplinary care plan, and collaborate closely with the patient's physician to address changes in condition.
  • Instruct patients and families in performing daily activities.
  • Establish routines for managing household tasks.
  • Teach patients and their families how to use prosthetic, orthotic, and assistive devices.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on the appropriate use of adaptive equipment.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

Required Skills:

  • Proficient computer skills and ability to use the Agency's EMR program.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, time management, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, complete paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Compliance with privacy and HIPAA laws. Respect for patient rights and treating clients and their belongings with dignity and respect.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle with current insurance coverage and in good working condition, available for work-related travel within the assigned county.
  • Willingness to undergo physical examination, criminal background checks, and drug testing.

Required Experience:

  • Graduate of an accredited occupational therapy program.
  • Licensed by and currently registered with the New York State Education Department.
  • Minimum one year of practical experience as a licensed occupational therapist.
