Operations Manager – Dairy Manufacturing Minnesota
Our client, a leading dairy company, is seeking an experienced Operations Manager for a manufacturing facility located in central Minnesota, near St. Cloud. This critical role will report directly to the Plant Manager and will be responsible for overseeing a 24x7 operation, providing guidance and training to team members to foster the development of efficient and effective teams. The Operations Manager will work closely with the Plant Steering Team to develop and implement both short and long-term strategies, including project management, staffing, and employee engagement initiatives.
In this position, you will be responsible for leading a production team consisting of seven salaried employees and over 140 hourly associates. The goal is to foster a strong safety culture, positive employee relations, engagement, and consistency across all teams.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop and implement programs to ensure efficient and cost-effective operation and utilization of facility assets.
• Manage safety, quality, service, and cost performance within assigned area of responsibility.
• Make recommendations to senior management regarding long-term labor strategies and capital equipment needs.
• Identify and implement recommendations for improved systems, policies, and procedures, ensuring timely and accurate implementation.
• Collaborate with Human Resources in employee relations matters, ensuring consistent application of policies and expectations.
• Implement strategies and tactics in alignment with department and company vision and goals.
• Develop and maintain operating budget and capital spending plans for assigned area of responsibility.
• Identify, recruit, and develop staff with the necessary capabilities to consistently achieve departmental objectives.
• Ensure that industry best practices are followed and employees receive appropriate training.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma/GED plus a minimum of 7 years of management experience in the food processing/manufacturing industry, with a strong background in leadership.
• Excellent presentation, communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
• Proven ability to analyze and manage product and labor costs effectively.
• Prior experience in high-speed food manufacturing.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• A minimum of ten years of management experience in cheese or food manufacturing, with a proven track record of progressive leadership responsibilities.
• An MBA or master’s degree in engineering is preferred.
• Proven ability to collaborate with individuals at all levels and in various functions within the company.
• Proficiency in project management techniques and methodologies.
• Experience in leveraging the skills and abilities of front-line employees to drive success.
• Familiarity with TPM, Six Sigma, and other problem-solving methodologies.
