ABOUT THE ROLE
Our client, a 100% employee-owned ESOP and ENR Top 500 engineering firm with over 40 years of industry leadership, is expanding its Electrical Testing Group (ETG) into new regions. We're looking for an entrepreneurial Operations Manager to launch and scale a new business unit, combining operational excellence with growth-focused leadership.
This is not a maintenance role. You'll serve as both Integrator and Builder, taking a proven business model and establishing it in a new market. You'll own day-to-day execution, lead a growing technical team, manage full P&L responsibility, and partner with national ETG leadership to drive the business from startup through maturity.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Operational Leadership & Execution
- Execute the ETG business plan, achieving or exceeding P&L, revenue, and performance goals
- Lead regional operations including scheduling, resource planning, quality assurance, safety, and project delivery
- Implement and maintain testing standards, operating systems, and documentation processes
- Oversee field operations for protective relaying, SCADA, and IEC 61850 systems commissioning
- Balance efficiency, quality, and profitability across all technical operations
Build & Develop the Business Unit
- Recruit, train, and develop a skilled team of field engineers and technicians
- Establish vendor partnerships and cultivate strong client relationships
- Drive growth through operational excellence and client satisfaction
- Create scalable structure and processes as the business evolves
Integration & Team Alignment
- Align all functions of the local operation around shared goals
- Lead and hold team members accountable for results and commitments
- Build a cohesive, high-performing leadership team
- Resolve issues by identifying root causes and driving solutions to completion
Vision & Collaboration
- Partner closely with national ETG leadership to ensure clear direction and alignment
- Translate vision into actionable, measurable goals
- Cascade key messages and decisions effectively across the team
Systems & Process Management
- Operate within the EOS framework: own scorecards, lead local meetings, and manage KPIs
- Ensure core processes are followed, documented, and continuously improved
- Demonstrate strong project management discipline and operational consistency
- Uphold values of safety, integrity, quality, and innovation
YOUR PATH TO SUCCESS
First 6–12 Months: Establish the foundation by hiring key staff, building client relationships, delivering successful projects, and driving toward break-even.
12–24 Months: Transition into growth phase with solid team structure, sustainable backlog, strong client confidence, and P&L tracking toward profitability.
Beyond 24 Months: The business unit operates as a profitable, independently functioning part of the national ETG network, recognized for technical quality and reliability.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Salary: $160,000 – $190,000 annually (based on location and qualifications)
Additional Compensation:
- Discretionary annual bonus
- 14% of total annual compensation (salary + bonus) contributed to ESOP retirement each year
- 100% Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
Comprehensive Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life & AD&D, Long-Term Disability, Voluntary Short-Term Disability, HSA, FSA, PTO, Paid Holidays, Tuition Reimbursement, Referral Bonus, 401(k)/Profit Sharing, EAP, Will Preparation Resources, Worldwide Travel Assistance
This is a rare opportunity to lead a business through its full lifecycle, from infancy to maturity, with your leadership at the center of that transformation.
