Paralegal/Legal Assistant – Tax & Estate Planning
About Our Firm
Our client, a dynamic and rapidly expanding law firm based in the vibrant city of Houston, is seeking to fill a key role in their team. We are currently looking for an experienced Paralegal who specializes in Tax and Estate Planning. This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, offering a permanent opportunity for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend and document initial client meetings and/or phone conferences as requested by the attorney.
- Create initial drafts of wills, trusts, and durable powers of attorney for attorney review.
- Assist in updating beneficiary designations to align with new estate planning documents.
- Maintain a comprehensive list of ongoing gift tax returns and prepare the necessary U.S. Gift Tax Return (Form 709).
- Keep track of important deadlines related to multiple estates.
- Prepare essential documents to initiate the probate / administration process.
- Organize logistics and provide support during client meetings and document signings.
- Facilitate real estate and tangible personal property appraisals.
- Compile and assess the decedent's debts and administration expenses to determine possible deductions.
- Prepare various documents, including Federal Form 706, State Estate & Inheritance Tax Returns, and Federal Form 8971.
- Coordinate the response to additional information requests from tax authorities.
- Draft waivers of accounting and approval of administration for beneficiaries.
- Prepare formal, scheduled accounting for submission to the Court and the Attorney General.
- Support the funding of marital and non-marital trusts, as well as the asset transfer process to beneficiaries.

- Self-motivated, exhibits a strong work ethic, and takes pride and ownership in their work product.
Education and Experience
- A college degree is a requirement for this position.
- Preference will be given to candidates who possess a Paralegal Certificate or an equivalent combination of skills and experience.
- Prior experience working as a Paralegal, preferably one or more years, is preferred.
