Paralegal – Public Finance
Our client, a Houston-based law firm, is seeking an experienced Public Finance Legal Assistant to join their team.
In this role, you will work closely with attorneys to provide comprehensive legal support to municipal utility districts (MUDs) and other special purpose districts throughout Texas. This includes direct client interaction, attending board meetings, and assisting with the drafting of legal documents related to public financing bonds.
We are looking for candidates with at least two years of experience in a law firm or related setting. Knowledge of public finance or experience working with governing corporate boards is preferred. However, we will also consider entry-level candidates with strong academic backgrounds and excellent writing skills.
Responsibilities:
- Attend meetings of the Board of Directors for MUD clients and record all board actions and decisions.
- Prepare agendas and necessary documents for board meetings, including multi-lingual agendas for election matters.
- Ensure legal procedures are followed during board meetings.
- Prepare minutes of board meetings.
- Coordinate with district directors and other consultants.
- Assist with the preparation and submission of bond documents.
- Handle applications for annexation of land to districts.
- Stay informed about current legislation and inform the board about new regulations.
- Assist with permit renewals and tax exemptions.
- Prepare documents for annual investment policy reviews.
- Maintain district files and permanent documents.
- Review and finalize correspondence.
- Accurately record billable hours.
Requirements:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word.
- Familiarity with document management systems and client billing systems is a plus.
- Strong communication and grammar skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work with various professionals and respond to client inquiries.
- A 4-year degree is required, paralegal certificate preferred.
