We are seeking a highly motivated Rehabilitation Specialist to join our bustling private practice in Washington, DC.

OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES: Design and execute personalized rehabilitation programs for patients, ensuring compliance with APTA standards of practice and ethical conduct. Must possess a valid physical therapy license in Washington, DC.

REPORTING TO: You will report directly to the Director of Rehabilitation.

SUPERVISING: When the Director of Rehabilitation or Assistant Director of Rehabilitation is absent, you will supervise the PT Assistant and PT Aides.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires excellent manual dexterity, coordination, and mobility. You need to be comfortable with extended periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, and lifting patients. The role also involves handling department equipment and lifting items up to 100 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS: You will be exposed to various diseases and conditions commonly found in a clinic environment.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: (This list may not include all duties)

  1. Collaborate with physicians to plan, evaluate, and modify individual treatment programs for patients.
  2. Administer treatment programs according to physician instructions, ensuring clarity of treatment plans through effective communication.
  3. Timely completion of patient evaluations, re-evaluations, progress notes, and discharge summaries, following company guidelines.
  4. Accurate and efficient billing of patients/insurance companies, resolving any billing issues in coordination with the Business Office staff.
  5. Provide education to patients and their families on proper care, home instructions, and exercise programs.
  6. Active participation in required meetings, in-services, and professional development activities.
  7. Supervise PT aides as needed.
  8. Perform periodic internal documentation audits as directed by the Director/Assistant Director of Rehabilitation or Executive Director.
  9. Complete other duties and tasks assigned by the Director/Assistant Director of Rehabilitation.
  10. Adherence to ethical guidelines and responsible conduct.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Proficient in basic computer skills.
  2. Comprehensive knowledge of physical therapy principles, practices, standards, and techniques.
  3. Familiarity with patient insurance verification procedures.
  4. Thorough understanding of medical terminology.
  5. Proficient in the regulations governing physical therapy, such as Title 10.38 for Maryland and Title 17.67 for Washington, DC.
  6. Skilled in utilizing and maintaining physical therapy equipment.
  7. Knowledgeable about common safety hazards and precautions to ensure a safe work environment.
  8. Excellent ability to build and maintain effective relationships with patients, colleagues, and the public.
  9. Clear and concise oral and written communication skills.
  10. Proficient in writing reports, correspondence, and maintaining patient care records.
  11. Strong adherence to body mechanics and safety regulations.
  12. Skilled in identifying and recommending solutions to problems.


  1. Comply with certification and licensure requirements mandated by the Washington, DC authorities.
  2. Adhere to compliance requirements set by HFCA, Medicare, and all contracted carriers, including a comprehensive understanding of the practice's accountability.
  3. Thorough knowledge of financial and coding practices to ensure accurate charge submission in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  4. Adherence to all applicable regulations regarding billing and collection activities.
  5. Strict adherence to guidelines for maintaining patient confidentiality.
  6. Demonstration of a strong commitment to ethical and responsible conduct.
  7. Identification, reporting, and prevention of any fraudulent or unethical behavior.
  8. Prompt notification to management if inappropriate behavior is observed within the organization.
  9. Adherence to electronic security protocols, including restriction of non-business use of company computers and avoidance of cell phone usage during work hours.

HIPAA-Minimum Necessary Access to PHI

The role associated with this position grants access to the PT/OAC computer system. We strictly enforce the principle of minimum-necessary access to protect the privacy of our patients' PHI within our practice. In order to perform your duties related to treatment, payment, and healthcare operations effectively, access to the designated computer role is granted. The specific role details are provided in our HIPAA manual, and access to computer information requires password protection. Upon termination, employee passwords will be promptly deleted from the system.

EDUCATION: Master's or Doctorate in physical therapy from an accredited institution

EXPERIENCE: Clinical internships in physical therapy are required.

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE: Must hold a valid physical therapy license in Washington, DC.

Work hours are 8am-6pm, Monday through Thursday. We offer full-time positions with excellent benefits.
