Main Responsibilities:

  1. Design and execute individualized treatment plans based on the principles and techniques of Physical Therapy. Collaborate with interdisciplinary treatment team. Accountable to the Clinical Coordinator of Rehab Services.
  2. Specialization in Lymphedema treatment.


1. Assess Physical Therapy requisitions.

a. Conduct patient interviews and evaluate their physical condition and requirements.

2. Develop personalized exercise and treatment programs for assigned patients.

a. Determine appropriate equipment usage, application, and body positioning. Adjust as necessary for exercise, gait training, soft tissue mobility, whirlpool, hot packs, ultrasound, paraffin, ice packs, electrical stimulation, and traction.

b. Instruct patients on program segments such as wheelchair, crutches, canes, braces, and prosthetic appliance usage.

c. Recommend modifications or program changes based on progress evaluation.

d. Consult with physicians regarding available alternatives when needed.

3. Prepare written documentation as required, including evaluation results, treatment plans, progress reports, and discharge summaries.

4. Communicate and coordinate observations, facts, and comments with nursing and interdisciplinary teams to ensure efficient overall healthcare coordination.

5. Provide guidance and direction to support staff involved in patient care.

6. Maintain department policies, procedures, objectives, quality initiative program, safety, and infection control standards.

a. Adhere to hospital-wide safety responsibilities:

1. Create a safe environment for patients, visitors, and employees.

2. Maintain knowledge of safety policies and procedures, including fire safety and disaster protocols.

3. Follow safety practices with equipment.

4. Use safety devices on equipment and ensure they are functional.

5. Wear appropriate safety clothing and respect universal precautions.

6. Report any unsafe acts or conditions to supervisors.

7. Attend safety programs.

b. Familiarity with and adherence to departmental policy and procedure manual.

c. Assist the Clinical Coordinator with quality initiative indicators as required.

7. Assist in the care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.

8. Attend required meetings and participate in assigned committees.

9. Transport patients to and from PT Department as needed.

10. Assume duties and responsibilities of Senior Therapists in their absence.

11. Enhance professional growth and development through educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, workshops, etc.

12. Attend all annual mandatory educational programs.

13. Provide age-appropriate care to patients of different age groups.

14. Understand and demonstrate the importance of satisfying customer/patient needs through friendly and attentive interaction, both psychologically and physically.


  • Current or Eligible New York State Physical Therapy license required.


  • Previous experience in a hospital setting preferred.


  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire date.


  • Involves physical effort and occasionally repetitive tasks. May include lifting, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift at least thirty (30) pounds independently and at least one-hundred and fifty (150) pounds with assistance.


  • Category II. Tasks that do not involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. However, occasional unplanned Category I tasks may be required.


  • Follow all aspects of universal precautions during patient care.
