  • We are currently seeking an experienced Physical Therapist specializing in Pediatrics for an outpatient role.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and implement customized treatment programs for pediatric patients based on the principles and practices of Physical Therapy. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary treatment team. Report to the Clinical Coordinator of Rehabilitation Services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Review and evaluate Physical Therapy requisitions.

a. Conduct patient interviews to assess their physical condition and needs.

2. Create individualized exercise and treatment programs for assigned patients.

a. Determine appropriate equipment usage, application, and body position for treatments such as exercise, gait training, soft tissue mobilization, hydrotherapy, thermotherapy, ultrasound, paraffin, cryotherapy, electrical stimulation, and traction.

b. Instruct patients on program segments, including the proper use of wheelchairs, crutches, canes, braces, and prosthetic devices.

c. Recommend modifications or changes to the patient's program based on ongoing evaluation of progress.

d. Consult with physicians as needed to explore alternative treatment options.

3. Prepare written documentation as required by professional and departmental standards, including evaluation results, treatment plans, progress reports, and discharge summaries.

4. Communicate observations, facts, and comments with nursing and other members of the interdisciplinary team to ensure efficient coordination of the overall healthcare plan.

5. Provide guidance and direction to support staff assisting with patient care.

6. Maintain adherence to departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality initiatives, safety protocols, and infection control measures.

a. Adhere to hospital-wide safety responsibilities:

1. Create a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

2. Keep up-to-date with all hospital safety policies and procedures, including fire safety and disaster protocols.

3. Follow safety protocols when using equipment.

4. Use safety devices on equipment and ensure they are in working order.

5. Wear appropriate safety clothing and gear and follow "Universal Precautions" as required.

6. Report any unsafe acts or conditions to a supervisor.

7. Attend safety programs and training sessions.

b. Familiarity with and adherence to the department's policy and procedure manual.

c. Assist the Clinical Coordinator with quality improvement initiatives as needed.

7. Assist in the care and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies.

8. Attend required meetings and serve on committees as directed.

9. Assist in transporting patients to and from the Physical Therapy department as necessary.

10. Assume the responsibilities of Senior Therapists in their absence.

11. Pursue professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, staying up-to-date with current literature, attending in-service meetings and workshops, etc.

12. Fulfill all mandatory annual educational requirements.

13. Provide age-appropriate care to neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

14. Demonstrate the utmost importance of addressing the needs of the customer/patient by engaging with them in a friendly and compassionate manner, considering their psychological and physical well-being, and maintaining continuous communication to deliver a secure and pleasant experience.

  • EDUCATION:
  • Must be licensed, or eligible for licensure, to practice Physical Therapy in the state of New York at the time of hire.
  • EXPERIENCE:
  • Prior experience in a hospital setting is preferred.
  • CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR) REQUIREMENTS:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Significant physical effort or strain may be required, with occasional repetitive movements. This position may involve lifting, pushing, and pulling. Must have the ability to independently lift at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with assistance.
  • EXPOSURE CATEGORY:
  • Category II. May involve tasks with no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. However, unforeseen tasks with such exposure may be required.
  • INFECTION CONTROL:
  • Adhere to universal precautions at all times during patient care.
