Job Summary:

Responsible for overseeing the provision of nursing services and ensuring safe patient care within the pediatric intensive care unit. The incumbent will manage the delivery of services in alignment with nursing standards, service priorities, and performance measures, as well as strategic and organizational goals.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide 24-hour management of nursing services and ensure the delivery of safe patient care that meets or exceeds quality, cost, and clinical standards.
  • Establish, implement, and maintain patient care and service standards to meet the expectations and needs of both members and internal clients in a competitive healthcare market. Hold staff accountable for delivering high-quality care in compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Collaborate with nursing leadership to develop strategic and business plans that promote integrated services across the continuum of care. Implement systems, processes, and methods to evaluate and improve patient care within the pediatric intensive care unit and across the continuum of care.
  • Develop and monitor department budgets to effectively utilize human and material resources.
  • Monitor financial performance and identify strategies to reduce costs and enhance the quality of care and services.
  • Determine the appropriate staffing levels for the department and establish processes for screening, interviewing, hiring, training, and maintaining staff competency. Support ongoing staff development.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor departmental policies and procedures in alignment with the organization's goals and objectives. Establish and enforce standards of care, fiscal management, and quality improvement activities.
  • Address and resolve human resource and risk management issues.
  • Promote a culture of safety within the organization and ensure compliance with safety standards and guidelines for patients, employees, and the department. Adhere to administrative, legal, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in leadership committees at the Medical Center, Regional, and/or National level.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant clinical nursing experience, including at least three (3) years in a management or leadership role.
Education
  • Degree in nursing (Bachelor's or Master's).
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • BSN and National Health/Nursing Administration Certification or MSN required for PICU and NICU Departments in CCS-certified facilities or those seeking CCS certification.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Registered Nurse License (California)
  • Basic Life Support certification
  • Knowledge of Nurse Practice Act, TJC, and other relevant regulations.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and management skills.
  • Consistently provides superior and culturally sensitive service to stakeholders and stakeholders, including members, customers, contracted providers, and vendors.
  • Ability to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience with electronic medical records.
  • Master's degree.
  • National Certification in a specialty.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a Community level 2 Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).
