Job Description: Flight Systems Engineer

Summary
This position entails designing innovative solutions for complex water treatment applications and providing consultation to internal and external stakeholders before project commencement. The Flight Systems Engineer also oversees the pilot program to support sales growth through pilot contracts and the resulting full-scale opportunities. This involves assisting in bidding and winning pilot contracts, managing customer projects, coordinating testing protocols, providing customer service, offering field support, analyzing data, optimizing systems, writing technical reports, and addressing any research and development requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Contributes to the assessment of customer specifications to determine suitable treatment solutions and prepares accurate BOMs and cost estimates for capital and operating expenses.
  • Completes bids and proposals within specified deadlines.
  • Ensures product performance through the design and execution of operational tests and research.
  • Interprets blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
  • Creates preliminary PFDs, P&IDs, and layout drawings.
  • Offers engineering support by addressing queries and requests from both internal and external sources.
  • Collaborates with external resources to implement operating procedures, address system malfunctions, and obtain technical support.
  • Works closely with the sales and engineering teams to support sales, enhance the commercial pilot program, and maximize the utilization of pilot assets and accessories.
  • Collaborates with Sales and Marketing to influence the marketplace by producing whitepapers, presentations, and case studies for regional and national trade shows and industry conferences.
  • Provides hands-on and remote field support to troubleshoot, maintain, and optimize pilot equipment, including instrumentation, pumps, valves, controls, and other water treatment components.
  • Assists the Field Service group when necessary.
  • Develops and updates project schedules, clearly communicating task expectations to team members and stakeholders.
  • Efficiently manages pilot projects by creating, reviewing, approving, and receiving customer agreements, change orders, invoices, and payments.
  • Responsible for writing comprehensive pilot reports that summarize data, study conclusions, and recommendations.
Miscellaneous Duties and Responsibilities
  • Handles additional tasks, duties, and projects as assigned.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% for customer needs, sometimes on short notice.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Chemical, Mechanical, or a related discipline from a four-year college; two years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Understanding of water chemistry, sampling/analytical methods, and/or process knowledge of water/wastewater treatment (biological treatment, membranes and filtration, adsorption, reverse osmosis, oxidation, and disinfection) is a plus.
  • Must reside within a 25-mile radius of Chaska, MN.
  • Experience with AutoCAD preferred.
  • Preferred experience in designing piping systems.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific, technical, financial, and legal documents.
  • Proficient in problem-solving with limited standardization.
  • Familiarity with inventory software, internet software, spreadsheet software (Excel), and processing software (Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat) is required.
