Plant EHS Specialist
Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator
Ruston, LA
Salary: $90,000 to $120,000 + Bonus + Full Relocation
The Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator will be responsible for implementing and enhancing the company's EHS program at the Ruston plant. This role requires a proactive, independent thinker who can work both individually and as part of a team. The coordinator will collaborate with the plant operations team and corporate Safety team to achieve our goal of a 'zero harm workplace'. Reporting to the Plant Manager, this role will also receive guidance from the Divisional Safety Manager and Regional Environmental Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Support and promote safe practices in accordance with company policies and compliance requirements.
- Act as a resource for OSHA and EPA regulatory compliance.
- Lead or participate in incident investigations and root cause analysis.
- Perform risk and hazard assessments to identify and mitigate employee risks.
- Improve safety monitoring and recordkeeping systems for compliance.
- Evaluate safety strategies for projects that impact the facility or employees.
- Develop and coordinate safety activities, including training and reporting.
- Facilitate safety, health, and environmental training for all plant personnel.
- Ensure compliance with safety and environmental policies and procedures.
- Manage documentation for safety and environmental compliance.
- Support facility improvements, such as lean and cost reduction initiatives.
- Manage onsite and offsite waste disposal and environmental permits.
- Coordinate with outside agencies and contracted employees.
- Travel up to 5% as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Safety and Health, Environmental, or related field.
- Prior safety specific training (e.g. OSHA 30 Hour).
- Minimum of 7 years of safety and/or environmental experience in an industrial setting.
- Experience as an EHS leader or recognized subject matter expert preferred.
- Professional certifications in safety, environmental, or occupational health preferred.
- Working knowledge of federal safety and environmental laws.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data analysis software.
- Excellent communication, training, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated root-cause analysis skills.
- Strong leadership and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and be on call when needed.
Ideal Candidate:
- Familiarity with humidity steam activated chemistry.
- Experience working in a non-union facility with 70 employees.
- Knowledge of PPE and forklift training.
- Self-starter with a strong understanding of safety and EHS deliverables.
- Positive influencer of change and collaborator.
