Principal Communications Engineer (JN-21346)

Job Description

As the Lead Communications Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the development of RF signature detection, communication systems, electronic attack and protection systems. Your responsibilities will focus on both prototype development and the full life cycle of fielded products.

To start, you will conduct a comprehensive literature survey of cutting-edge receiver algorithms. Next, you will leverage your expertise in MATLAB to perform a mission-relevant trade study and provide recommendations to our sponsors and collaborators. You will then collaborate with software (SW) and hardware (HDL) teams to transform your design specification into a deliverable product. Throughout this process, you will continuously evaluate the field performance of the products with the aim of continuous improvement. It is essential for you to have hands-on testing ability.

Required Qualifications:

- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a similar field
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in DSP development, implementation, and testing on multiple projects
- Experience in leading the design and development of DSP algorithms for communication systems
- Proficiency in software-defined radios
- Extensive knowledge of digital communication systems, PHY layer topics, channel coding algorithms, and modulation theory
- Excellent skills in using MATLAB for DSP signal analysis
- Proficiency in performing hands-on test and measurement to validate concepts and address performance issues, such as phase noise, noise contributors, triggering repeatability, and synchronization stability
- Ability to efficiently document test setup descriptions, test parameters, assumptions, results, and takeaway messages alongside development efforts

- Proficiency in C++ and Python
