Principal Engineer, Power Supply

Currently, we are hiring for the position of Lead Power Supply Engineer on our Central Infrastructure team at our Charleston, TN site.

Responsibilities:

This role reports to the Senior Engineering Manager of Central Infrastructure. As the Lead Power Supply Engineer, you will provide technical support and engineering services in the field of electrical engineering. Your main responsibility will be to ensure a reliable power supply for the Charleston site, ensuring safe operations, compliance with regulations, and maximum availability of power supply equipment and infrastructure utility systems.

  • Oversee and support capital investment and expense projects within your area of responsibility
  • Coordinate with third-party service providers
  • Maintain and operate various power supply equipment, including switch gears, transformers, and capacitor banks. Troubleshoot and resolve malfunctions.
  • Lead and manage Preventative Maintenance (ITPM) programs and tasks for power supply equipment. Prepare switching orders for temporary changes during maintenance.
  • Maintain and operate emergency generators and uninterrupted power supply (UPS) systems
  • Serve as the point of contact for the company's power utility company. Create monthly energy reports and analyze power billing.
  • Manage and maintain electrical duct banks, including routing, design, and coordination with business partners
  • Act as a subject matter expert in VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) and motors
  • Maintain and update the ETAP software for the Site Power Supply model
  • Coordinate external repair of electrical equipment
  • Consult and support capital projects related to power supply
  • Support Plant Engineering Managers in ensuring safe operations and performance of production units
  • Conduct debottlenecking activities
  • Drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, and cost
  • Develop specifications, standards, and codes
  • Collaborate in interdisciplinary and intercultural teams
  • Represent the company's interests with suppliers and contractors
  • Compile and provide reports related to your area of responsibility
  • Collaborate with various departments and individuals to achieve optimal results
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures
  • Perform other assigned duties as required

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, preferably in Electrical Engineering
  • At least 15 years of experience in power utility companies or industries with high energy demand
  • Prior experience working with power utility companies or high-energy industries
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment
  • Adaptability and flexibility in response to changing priorities and requirements
  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles and construction practices
  • Expertise in power supply, electrical engineering, and instrumentation, including relevant regulations and standards. Knowledge of automation and controls is a plus
  • Strong team player
  • Objective decision-making and judgment
  • Excellent multitasking abilities
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally
  • Experience in power distribution systems and equipment from 161kVA to 480V
  • 161KV - Siemens GIS (Gas-insulated switchgear), Southwire cable, 45MVA transformers
  • 13.8KV - Siemens NXAir medium-voltage (MV) switchgear, MV Bus Duct, Okonite cables
  • 4160V - Siemens GMSG, MVC & MVS type contactors, bus tie for starts
  • 480V - Low voltage switchgear (LVSG), WL breakers
  • Power Control system (PCS) & network - Servers, Rugged communication equipment (Ruggedcom)
  • Capacitor Banks - NEPSI
  • Diesel Generators - MTU diesel, Marathon 13.8kV
  • Rotary UPS - Piller
  • SIPROTEC protection relays
  • Main-Tie-Main concept

  • ETAP - power system model
  • DIGSI - SIPROTEC relay programming
  • WinCC - SIEMENS process-visualization system
  • SICAM - power supply control
  • SIGRA - Oscillograph viewing
  • PI - Oil System Inc Plant Information (OSI PI)
  • EXCEL-PI DataLink
  • COMOS - Drawings System
