Principal Reliability Engineer Fixed Equipment (JN-21872)

Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a Lead Fixed Equipment Reliability Engineer for our location in Alvin, Texas. The main objective of this role is to oversee the reliability of fixed equipment assets and mitigate any risks that could potentially impact plant or business operations. The Reliability Engineer will focus on developing and implementing strategies for equipment stewardship, as well as predictive and preventative maintenance programs to optimize asset value, ensure safe equipment operation, and control ownership costs. Additionally, the Lead Fixed Equipment Reliability Engineer will provide technical support for projects and maintenance activities, and establish best practices for the repair of vessels, tanks, piping, and relief devices.

TARGETED OBJECTIVES

· Achieve measurable improvements in unit uptime, maintenance cost, and process safety performance related to fixed equipment.

· Provide technical support, guidance, and expertise for fixed equipment/assets and supporting projects, from engineering through maintenance.

· Establish best-in-class Mechanical Integrity (MI) Programs.

· Support continuous improvement in reliability and productivity through key projects focused on equipment optimization and asset life extension.

· Apply cutting-edge reliability technology to enhance manufacturing processes and equipment performance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

· Troubleshoot equipment issues and conduct root cause failure analysis to identify and eliminate repeat failures.

· Collaborate with production to identify areas for reliability improvement and develop action plans for implementation.

· Regularly communicate progress of fixed equipment and MI programs to leadership with clear metrics.

· Prioritize inspection planning and execution using risk-based methodologies, and develop inspection/maintenance plans for all equipment types.

· Provide technical support to Mechanical Integrity Inspectors regarding repairs, troubleshooting, and equipment installation.

· Support Project Engineering Department in selecting mechanical equipment based on reliability improvements and industry best practices.

· Provide support throughout project phases, including design, fabrication, installation, testing, and start-up.

· Conduct and review vessel and piping design calculations, including fitness for service evaluations.

· Lead or support the development of vessel repair plans and temporary repair devices.

· Assist in job planning for fixed equipment inspection and repairs, including maintenance and turnaround activities.

· Stay updated on advancements in technology related to engineering and inspection equipment.

· Drive a culture change that prioritizes safety and reliability in decision-making processes.

· Team Members: Mechanical Reliability Engineers and Inspectors

Qualifications

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

· Minimum of 15 years of plant maintenance experience with fixed equipment.

· Proficient in API/ASME Mechanical Integrity programs and related software.

· Knowledge of predictive technologies for evaluating fixed equipment.

· Experience using CMMS as an effective management tool for equipment information and history.

REQUIRED SKILLS

· Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.

· Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Visio) and Enterprise Resource Planning (SAP).

· Strong critical thinking skills for problem-solving and equipment troubleshooting.

· Familiarity with ASME BP&V Code and API Codes for Tanks, Vessels, Exchangers, and piping (certifications are a plus).

· Proficient in RCFA methodology for identifying causes of failures in components, equipment, or systems.

· Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

PREFERRED SKILLS

· Experience with reliability software, such as Weibull Analysis, RCM, and Mechanical Integrity Software.

· Knowledge of Fitness for Service calculations using API and/or SME Code.

· Familiarity with RBI methodology for risk management and failure prevention.
