Process Safety Engineer

Location: Decatur, IL
A position as a Process Safety Technician in Decatur, IL entails gaining comprehensive knowledge about product development and designing the manufacturing process. The main responsibilities include problem-solving, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and assessing the operational process for adherence to standards.

  • Developing a PSM culture in our EHSQS Management System at the facilities and acquiring local expertise.
  • Offering regulatory interpretation and technical support for process safety issues and site projects.
  • Coordinating various tasks, including compliance with OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) and EPA Risk Management Plan (RMP) rules, handling dust hazards analysis and risk reduction, collecting and maintaining Process Safety Information (PSI), scheduling PHA revalidation and facilitating employee participation, identifying process safety training needs, reviewing contractor PSM qualifications, reviewing and following up on Mechanical Integrity inspection reports, conducting PSM self-audits and inspections, and establishing a process for tracking and closing PHA and audit action items.
  • Integrating Process Safety Performance indicators into the facilities.
  • Determining the appropriate process hazard analysis methodology based on the scope of work and proposed Management of Change (MOC).
  • Overseeing the Process Safety Critical Asset Integrity/Mechanical Integrity program at the facility.
  • Developing Major Accident Response Plans/Emergency Response Plans and Teams.
  • Implementing a sustainable uniform format for creating and updating Operating Procedures.
  • Instilling a culture of program ownership through employee participation by coaching and mentoring them on their roles and responsibilities within process safety management.
  • Providing oversight to MOC by maintaining and auditing MOC and Pre-Start Up Safety Review (PSSR) records and procedures.
  • Promoting the facility siting process to integrate requirements into an effective management system.
  • Participating in the investigation of process safety incidents.
  • Analyzing process safety incidents and trends and formulating strategic goals for implementation.
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience in Process Safety within a chemical/food manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with site management and field operations personnel.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, communication, team-building, and influencing skills.
  • Ability to research, analyze, interpret, and implement EHSQS/PSM regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • In-depth understanding of PSM, OSHA, NFPA, ASME, API standards, and codes.
  • Experience in EHSQS management systems and auditing.
  • Familiarity with root cause investigation techniques.
  • Qualified PHA facilitator.
  • Knowledge of RAGAGEP (Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices).
  • Preference for a Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
