Job Title: Manager of Applications Engineering - Processing and Quoting

Location: Madison Heights, MI

Summary: We are currently seeking a Manager of Applications Engineering with expertise in processing and quoting. In this role, you will be responsible for developing manufacturing processes and analyzing data to determine the resources needed for producing complete Body-in-White (BIW) tooling systems.

Essential Functions:

• Create accurate quotes for customer systems using the provided engineering process documentation
• Conduct cycle time analysis, generate conceptual drawings, define the sequence of operations, and provide technical descriptions of machine stations and major system components
• Establish estimated margins for all quoted jobs
• Estimate the costs of new equipment or capital investment required for production
• Collaborate with project management to negotiate changes and costs on projects and negotiate with customers if necessary
• Examine sketches, engineering data, and other information to determine the items that need to be quoted
• Supervise the concepting processes necessary for efficiently manufacturing components within an automated weld line based on customer statements of work
• Hold meetings with customers to initiate proposals and ensure alignment with plant requirements
• Collaborate with the Sales team to review process concepts and quotes, making adjustments as needed
• Work with the Purchasing department to obtain quotes for capital equipment needed for the process
• Coordinate with other management groups to determine the labor hours required for completing quoted projects
• Participate in budget reviews to assess quoted margins versus actual margins and update the quoting template accordingly
• Identify opportunities for process improvements in the estimating function and implement new procedures when necessary
• Willingness to assist in other areas of the company related to component quoting and line processing
• Oversee the entire quoting process in the Applications Engineering department, from initial receipt to project kick-off
• Provide departmental support and guidance on the quote process
• Perform other duties as assigned by management

Skills/Abilities:

• Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
• Expertise in processing is essential
• Experience with AutoCAD is required
• Previous experience quoting entire BIW tooling assemblies is preferred

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years' experience in cost estimating or process engineering
• Minimum of 3 years' experience in a relevant industry
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in managing and directing a team
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes and the ability to interpret engineering layouts and data
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for estimating costs using financial data
• Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to multitask effectively
• Ability to work independently and efficiently with minimal supervision
• Willingness to travel locally and long-distance to customer sites for field checks if required

Work Conditions:

• Must be comfortable working in both a professional office environment and a manufacturing setting
• Potential exposure to moving mechanical equipment, airborne particles, and occasional chemical fumes
• Noise level within the manufacturing floor may range from faint to moderate, and occasionally loud
• Wearing protective eyewear is mandatory in the manufacturing area
• Safety shoes, such as hard-soled shoes, must be worn in the manufacturing area
• May be required to work overtime as needed

Physical Demands:

• Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods if necessary
• Ability to bend and lift objects weighing up to 35 pounds if required
