Product Manager-Non-Food-Private label
About the Role: This particular position will primarily be responsible for overseeing our portfolio for a designated set of categories. The role entails managing the product lifecycle and financial performance of these items, as well as leading the sourcing, product development, and commercialization efforts. The successful candidate will develop a category roadmap based on identified business opportunities, collaborate with key stakeholders, and execute the roadmap through seamless commercialization. This role presents a unique opportunity to join a new team dedicated to laying the groundwork and shaping the future of sourcing. The position reports to the Brands Product Director and is a newly created role.

- Create and implement short, medium, and long-term category management plans and sourcing strategies for specific Brands categories.
- Conduct industry analyses and competitive assessments to prioritize sales and margin opportunities that will bring incremental value to the company.
- Oversee the RFP process for designated Brands categories, collaborating with key stakeholders from start to finish. This includes identifying capable supplier partners, performing market research, and managing supplier communication.
- Negotiate contracts and business terms with suppliers using an effective strategic sourcing process. This involves leveraging scenario modeling, should-cost analysis, design to value thinking, and vertical interference concepts.
- Develop business recommendations and communicate them to key decision-makers, including the Purchasing Leadership Team and Independent Operators network.
- Execute legal contracts with awarded suppliers, coordinating with the legal team on all legal indemnifications and business terms and conditions.
- Monitor supplier performance, assess service levels, review innovation pipelines, and drive continuous cost improvements.
- Provide ad hoc category or business analysis and support to stakeholders across the company, acting as a strategic partner.
- Collaborate with suppliers to create and launch new products that meet quality expectations and deliver value to shoppers and stores.
- Prepare financial decks summarizing Brands category performance, cost analysis, and other key financial metrics. This involves working closely with finance, purchasing, and strategy teams.
- Create data-driven reports and dashboards using insightful data visualizations. These tools will aid decision-making within the Brands and Purchasing departments.
- Provide input to the Brands design agency for packaging design solutions, considering category activity and private label competitive positioning.
- Review and approve label claim documentation, quality certifications, specifications, plant audit reports, certificates of insurance, and other legal or regulatory documents to mitigate risk.
- Generate sales and marketing content for digital marketing events, such as Ads, seasonal events, promotions, industry activations, and Independent Operator needs.
- Efficiently manage the Brands portfolio within assigned departments to drive sales growth, margin performance, and shopper value.
- Base Salary Range: $110,000 - $130,000 per year

- Final compensation will be determined based on experience and skills, and may vary by location.
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Food Science, Economics, or Supply Chain. MBA preferred.
- At least 10 years of analytical experience, with a data-driven approach to problem-solving and the ability to quickly assess financial impacts and identify opportunities. Proficiency in advanced Excel is a must.
- Minimum of 7 years of private label, sourcing, and/or product commercialization experience across multiple consumable product categories. Expertise in all aspects of private label commercialization, including legal, quality, regulatory, and print production, preferably in the grocery retail industry.
- Action-oriented and proactive, with the willingness and drive to lead change and implement operational improvements.
- Familiarity with clean-sheeting, should-cost modeling, tolling, and financial modeling for consumer-packaged goods total cost analysis.
- Knowledge of category industry activities and risks, including regulatory restrictions and needs, certification standards, brand positioning, claim values, and shopper behavior drivers.
- A collaborative worker who can quickly establish trusted relationships with internal and external business partners.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, work independently, and maintain a high level of focus.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, especially when presenting to peers and executives. Strong PowerPoint skills required.
- Experience working with mainframe ERP systems and multiple data sources is a plus.
