Production Manager

The Production Manager will oversee and guide the overall direction of production for the facility. This includes managing manufacturing schedules, utilizing efficient production methods and procedures, and ensuring the smooth operation of machines and equipment. You will lead the plant team in setting objectives and ensure their successful achievement. These objectives encompass production volumes, quality, safety, inventory management, customer satisfaction, and adherence to fiscal budgets.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives and monitoring all control procedures, making recommendations for improvement to the General Manager when necessary.

  • Adapting production schedules and priorities as required due to equipment failure, operational issues, or last-minute customer demands.

  • Analyzing production reports (OEE, downtime, waste, etc.) to identify causes of nonconformity with product specifications or any operating/production problems.

  • Collaborating with the General Manager to develop and implement operational methods and procedures aimed at eliminating issues and enhancing product quality.

  • Building strong relationships with key stakeholders within the organization to gain a better understanding of the overall business and its upstream and downstream connections. This will help prevent potential delays in production, shipment, and any negative impact on customer satisfaction.

  • Ensuring compliance with all standards and customer commitments related to safety, waste reduction, return and allowance, output, and on-time delivery within the plant.

  • Working alongside the Plant Safety Manager to effectively communicate and enforce the safety program.

  • Managing workforce planning to ensure appropriate staffing levels for maintaining productivity activities such as order readiness, customer specifications, and speed trials.

  • Maintaining a strong working relationship with the union by adhering to the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

  • Identifying training and development opportunities for Production Supervisors at the facility and monitoring their progress towards performance goals.

  • Collaborating closely with others to accomplish tasks and achieve common objectives. This includes fostering enthusiasm, maintaining mutual trust, candor, and respect in both interpersonal and team relationships. Additionally, resolving conflicts constructively will be necessary.

  • Demonstrating adaptability, flexibility, and a willingness to modify approaches in order to achieve desired results. Responding quickly to changing demands, processes, and updated information is essential.

  • Ensuring accountability by holding oneself and others responsible for actions and results.

  • Creating and delivering engaging presentations to internal and external audiences. Developing new communication strategies and approaches to effectively convey data, insights, and critical messages, resulting in clear understanding.

  • Demonstrating strong decision-making skills by using problem-solving abilities and supporting information to reach optimal decisions within an appropriate timeframe. Knowing when to decide independently and when to seek additional input, as well as driving towards consensus, are crucial.

  • Applying knowledge to frame, simplify, and solve complex issues. Focusing on identifying root causes and promptly developing solutions even in the face of conflicting or incomplete information.

Background requirements:
  • High School diploma or G.E.D - Required

  • Associate degree or higher in Business, Applied Science (e.g., Technical) - Preferred

  • Prior experience in the corrugated industry - Required (experience with BHS machines preferred)

  • 5+ years of supervisory experience in the manufacturing industry

  • Knowledge of machinery, including the ability to identify and troubleshoot equipment issues

  • General ability to utilize multiple methods for evaluating employee performance

  • Proven experience in lean and continuous improvement

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with all employees and customers

  • The ability to learn and utilize proprietary software programs for Corrugated Manufacturing systems
