Project Manager (Contractor) – Chicago and Detroit

Contractor Project Manager

Key Responsibilities

Working closely with the Sr. Program Manager, Assembly Plants, Customer, External Supply Base, and Internal Management to ensure that current and future Projects / Programs meet all deliverables for customer requirements and internal processes

· Attending customer meetings

· Tracking and solving open issues

· Coordinating manufacturing requirements

· Managing cost, capital, and tool tracking

· Ensuring design compliance to process

· Managing tooling & equipment time

· Providing support to Launch Manager

· Managing build process bulk and JIT

· Creating and tracking master timing plan

· Allocating program resources

Providing facilities support as needed

Ensuring appropriate program planning consistent with established program objectives and company needs, meeting established program targets for:

· Safety

· Quality

· Cost

· Timing

Leading Cross Functional Program Team in accordance with Business System guidelines and Engineering Change Process:

· Establishing and communicating Corporate, Division, and Program deliverable requirements for timing, quality, and completeness to the team

· Monitoring and tracking progress

· Addressing any concerns or issues that may hinder progress for the team

· Supporting and monitoring customer launch and engineering build activities

Promoting coordination and communication within the program team

Participating in manufacturing and product engineering

Initiating and approving Purchase Requisition process for contracted work

Ensuring the overall quality of design PDP deliverables to the Operating Divisions

Chairing Change Authorization & Implementation Meetings

Coordinating engineering change management for current programs, including Quoting, Costing, Planning, Implementation, and Closure

Maintaining communication between the customer and Plant Operations for all program activities

Leading all program phase review activities for assigned programs

Documenting all activities as required

Performing any additional responsibilities deemed necessary by management

 

 

 
 

 


Limits of Authority

Advising Department Manager of any situations that may pose a significant risk to the program, product assurance, facilities, employee safety, or customer satisfaction results.

Initiating actions to prevent the occurrence of any nonconformance relating to product, process, and systems

Identifying and recording any problems relating to the product, process, or system.

Initiating, recommending, or providing solutions through the appropriate channels and verifying implementation

Controlling further processing and delivery of nonconforming products until the deficiency is corrected.

 

 

 
 

 


Basic Education, Experience, and Skills Required

Bachelor’s degree in a technical engineering field, preferably Mechanical or Industrial Engineering. Alternatively, a non-technical four-year degree with substantial manufacturing experience is also acceptable, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficiency in P.C. applications for cost tracking, budgeting, and various spreadsheet analyses. Excellent interpersonal skills and written and verbal communication abilities:

· Program Manager – Minimum 5 years of experience in an automotive manufacturing/engineering environment with previous project team management responsibility. Preferably experienced in both product engineering and manufacturing operations. Work history should demonstrate problem-solving and business decision-making skills, as well as presentational ability

· Familiarity with GM SupplyPower, eSupplier, and Ford Supplier Portal, as well as other relevant systems

· Experience with Engineering BOMS, ECR / TWO, and Engineering Change Management

· Suspension, OHS, and IP experience would be beneficial

· Basic understanding of sequencing, repack, cross-docking, and assembly processes such as “VAA, JIT, LOC, MSS”

· Able to maintain confidentiality of information
