Radiographer (X-Ray Tech)

Location: Washington, DC

Job Summary:

As an Diagnostic Imaging Technologist, your main responsibility will be to provide radiologic films as directed by the physicians or medical assistants. Additionally, you will be responsible for ordering, maintaining, and organizing all clinical supplies and medical equipment, stocking all treatment rooms and MA stations with necessary supplies, shutting down clinic computers at the end of patient hours, and preparing Stericycle for pick-up.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience in taking and developing radiologic films using the PAC's system
  • Comfortable using email and interacting with Internet applications
  • Knowledge of practice management
  • Pleasant speaking voice
  • Good communication skills
  • Neat and professional appearance

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Patient Services

  • Greet patients and accompany them from the exam room to the radiologic area and back
  • Prepare patients for x-ray by positioning them comfortably and instructing them on appropriate body positioning and breath-hold techniques
  • Obtain clear images using safety precautions and protective equipment
  • Develop and process films, and inform the physician or MA when films are ready for viewing
  • Obtain signed waivers from patients when necessary, and ensure scanned copies are stored in the EHR
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and compliance guidelines

Radiologic Preparation and Equipment Maintenance

  • Perform inventory checks and report supply shortages to the manager
  • Maintain and arrange for repairs if needed for radiologic equipment
  • Perform routine maintenance and safety checks on x-ray equipment
  • Create and maintain written policies and procedures for radiologic equipment use and patient safety
  • Comply with OSHA mandates for dosimeter readings and quality assurance

Other Responsibilities

  • Order all clinical supplies and durable medical equipment
  • Maintain supply levels in all exam rooms and MA stations, checking for expiration dates and restocking when necessary
  • Ensure Stericycle containers are emptied and ready for pick-up
  • Check in and properly put away supplies within 1 business day of arrival
  • Maintain detailed knowledge of practice management and other computer software
  • Shut down all computers in exam rooms and MA stations at the end of the day

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job does not involve any supervisory responsibilities.

Typical Physical Demands

This position requires a full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients. It also requires manual and finger dexterity, hand-eye coordination, standing and walking intermittently for several hours a day. You may be asked to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds and assist in lifting patients onto the x-ray table. Normal visual acuity and hearing are required. You will be exposed to bodily fluids on a regular basis.

Education Requirements:

  • High School Diploma
  • Certified Radiologic Technologist License
  • Training in Orthopaedics is a plus
