At our organization, we are dedicated to supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in Chattanooga, TN. We strive to help them reach their full potential and lead fulfilling lives. As part of our mission, we operate Group Homes and Intermediate Care Facilities that cater to the lifelong needs of individuals with IDD.

We are currently seeking a Registered Nurse Supervisor to join our residential system. The ideal candidate will have experience in the field of ID/IDD (though we are willing to provide training). This individual should be able to oversee and train direct care staff in the monitoring of medical systems. Additionally, the nurse will participate in team meetings and provide medically related training to program staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide support to group homes catering to medically frail individuals with disabilities.
  • Offer ongoing clinical supervision in collaboration with administrative supervisors for all nurses within the region.
  • Organize and provide clinical training during meetings.
  • Serve as a resource to the department members and agency staff by providing necessary information.
  • Select, orient, train, counsel, discipline, and guide all nursing staff in collaboration with supervisors in the region.
  • Provide direct assistance as requested by the Nursing Coordinator in various aspects of the Nursing Department's operations.
  • Take a leadership role in organizing new nurses' orientation schedules, training, and supervision.


As the ICF/IDD Nurse Coordinator, you will provide nursing supervision for License Practical Nurses and ensure follow-up on all clients' nursing and medical issues to promote their health and wellness. You will also be responsible for providing staff training and monitoring compliance.

Essential Functions

  • Supervise License Practical Nurses in performing their assigned duties.
  • Maintain open communication with the Health Service Director at all times.
  • Carry the on-call nurse phone.
  • Review the medication administration system through observation to ensure continuity and quality.
  • Review documentation of all scheduled and controlled substances as defined by facility policy and pharmacy regulations.
  • Audit drug and pharmaceutical stock to ensure proper administration.
  • Review physician orders to verify correct implementation.
  • Regularly communicate with nursing staff to review client services and maintain continuity of care.
  • Inspect nursing assessments for completion at least monthly and follow up as required by ICF/ID guidelines.
  • Supervise nurses in providing follow-up care as identified in the Individual Service Plan.
  • Implement and maintain an organized tracking system for consultations, special procedures, laboratory procedures, x-rays, and immunizations to ensure timely acquisition and follow up.
  • Review electronic documentation daily to ensure thorough documentation and resolution of client issues.
  • Participate in the admission/discharge review process as assigned by the Health Services Director.
  • Work closely and cooperatively with other personnel and contracted individuals.
  • Review, date, and sign monthly, quarterly, and annual assessments.
  • Act as the Health Service Director in their absence.
  • Perform other assigned duties.


Education & Experience:

  • Valid Registered Nurse license issued by the State Board of Nursing in Tennessee.
  • Driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Prior experience working with disabled adults is desirable.
  • Prefer experience in supervising other nurses.
  • Experience with intellectually and developmentally disabled population is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in medical/surgical settings, nursing homes, rehabs, or chronic/geriatric care is a plus.
