Reliability Engineer- Fixed Equipment

Job Description

Desired Outcomes

· Achieve measurable enhancements in unit uptime, maintenance cost reduction, and process safety performance pertaining to fixed equipment such as OEE, remaining life, inspection efficiency, etc.

· Provide technical expertise, guidance, and support for fixed equipment/assets and associated projects from the initial engineering stages to detailed design, costing estimates, fabrication, inspection/validation, installation, commissioning, and maintenance.

· Implement best-in-class Mechanical Integrity (MI) Programs.

· Assist in continuous improvement efforts aimed at enhancing reliability and productivity through projects targeting equipment issues, asset life extension, and other approved tasks with positive business impact.

· Utilize cutting-edge reliability technology to optimize manufacturing processes and equipment performance for competitive advantage.

Responsibilities

· Troubleshoot equipment problems and conduct root cause failure analysis investigations on failed equipment. Develop and implement action plans to eliminate repeat failures.

· Collaborate with production teams to identify areas for reliability improvements and develop action plans to address issues related to bad actor flanges, heat exchanger tube failures, etc.

· Provide progress updates on fixed equipment and MI programs to leadership using clear metrics.

· Establish inspection priorities and plans using risk-based methodologies. Identify relevant damage mechanisms, select appropriate inspection tasks and NDE methods, and develop inspection/maintenance plans for all equipment types.

· Offer technical support to Mechanical Integrity Inspectors regarding mechanical repairs, troubleshooting problems, and equipment installation.

· Provide technical assistance to the Project Engineering Department in selecting mechanical equipment based on reliability improvements and industry best practices throughout project phases: design, fabrication, installation, testing, and start-up.

· Conduct and review vessel and piping design calculations, including fitness for service evaluations and equipment rerating (e.g., pressure vessels).

· Lead or assist in the development of vessel repair plans and temporary repair devices.

· Support job planning for fixed equipment inspection and repairs, including maintenance and turnaround activities.

· Stay updated on technological advancements and developments in engineering and inspection equipment and techniques.

· Promote a culture change at Ascend that prioritizes safety and reliability in decision-making. Foster cross-functional partnerships to educate departments about new fixed equipment and mechanical integrity initiatives.

Qualifications

Required Experience

· Minimum of 5 years of post-grad plant maintenance experience involving fixed equipment.

· Solid knowledge of API/ASME Mechanical Integrity programs and relevant MI Software.

· Familiarity with predictive technologies for evaluating fixed equipment.

· Demonstrated proficiency in using CMMS as an effective management tool for accessing equipment information and history.

Required Skills

· Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.

· Proficiency in computer systems including Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Visio) and Enterprise Resource Planning (SAP).

· Strong critical thinking skills for identifying alternative solutions and approaches to solve equipment problems.

· Knowledge of ASME BP&V Codes, including ASMBE B31.3 and API Codes for Tanks, Vessels, Exchangers, and Piping. Additional certifications in API 510, API 570, API 571, API 579, API 580, and API 653 are advantageous.

· Proficient in using RCFA methodology to identify causal factors for component, equipment, or system failures.

· Excellent communication skills for effective oral and written communication.

Preferred Skills

· Experience with reliability software such as Weibull Analysis, RCM, and Mechanical Integrity Software.

· Familiarity with Fitness for Service calculations based on appropriate API and/or SME Code.

· Knowledge of RBI methodology for improved risk management.
