Residential Therapist

Welcome to our residential mental health counseling team!

As a Residential Therapist, you will provide therapeutic support to our residents in Burlington, WV. Your role will involve active participation within the clinical treatment team on each unit, offering consultation and clinical assistance to the residents in our care. It will be your responsibility to write behavior support plans and individualized treatment plans in a professional and timely manner. We prioritize a holistic approach to meeting the needs of our youth and their families, including their physical, social, emotional, educational, and spiritual well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

Act as an advocate for each resident.

Provide therapy sessions a minimum of four times per week (or as indicated on the Treatment Plan) with assigned residents. Coordinate family counseling as necessary. Arrange alternative therapy services during your absence, such as vacations.

Serve as a resource and consultant for the Treatment Associates, delivering relevant in-service training as needed or requested.

Actively participate in Multi-Disciplinary Treatment Teams, residential staffings, admission team meetings, and cottage meetings.

Organize and facilitate therapeutic groups for residents as needed. Assist staff in developing supportive counseling skills.

Provide clinical oversight for Treatment Associates in your assigned cottage, ensuring adherence to Burlington's policies and procedures.

Contribute to the pre-placement and placement processes for new residents.

Respond to emergency interventions (e.g., school, residential unit, runaways, psychiatric, family) as required, following the call down procedures. Be available on call as per the residential weekly schedule.

Attend and participate in Court & MDT meetings, providing transportation as necessary, in collaboration with the case managers.

Complete therapy notes and other required documentation for individuals and groups in a timely manner.

Conduct necessary assessments to assist in treatment planning.

Develop additional plans related to behavior management, safety, or other concerns as required.

Attend all mandatory meetings related to treatment.

Maintain accurate client records according to West Virginia Licensing requirements.

Assist in locating suitable families for children.

Depending on your job site, you may assist or complete mental health assessments and individual service/treatment plans in collaboration with the case manager.

Take on any other duties as outlined in your position's responsibilities.

Qualifications

Education level:

Hold a master's degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or a related field from an accredited College or University. Hold a license in your respective field. (OR be in the process of obtaining a license from the State of West Virginia OR be able to obtain a provisional license in WV with supervised hours).

Experience:

Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of two years of post-graduate experience in treating/supervising children with emotional/behavioral problems, although this is not mandatory.
