Safety Manager
Our client is seeking a skilled Safety Manager to oversee the safety program at a large power generation facility in New York City. The primary responsibility of this role is to manage, coordinate, and supervise the implementation of all safety programs and processes at the facility. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, policies, and strive for continuous improvement in key performance indicators and objectives.
Key Responsibilities (not exhaustive):
· Lead compliance reviews, conduct risk assessments, and other safety evaluations to support Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) management.
· Participate in incident investigations and perform Root Cause Analysis.
· Assist in ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
· Provide guidance and advice on safety matters and make recommendations to the plant management team.
· Contribute to the development and delivery of relevant safety training programs.
· Adhere to safety regulations, utilize required safety equipment, promote safe work practices, promptly address obvious hazards, or report them to the appropriate personnel.
· Maintain positive and proactive relationships with managers, union employees, and regulatory agencies.
Specific Plant Responsibilities (not exhaustive)
· Conduct regular walks in the operating areas to establish a presence and provide EH&S support.
· Organize and conduct safety meetings and training sessions on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, as required.
· Develop, implement, and manage safety programs, policies, and procedures specific to the plant.
· Conduct safety inspections throughout the facility.
· Evaluate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure its proper use and maintenance.
· Demonstrate and enforce compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, EPA) and company EH&S policies and procedures.
· Assist in emergency response situations and provide first aid treatment as needed.
Assist in the development of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
Support the administration and maintenance of compliance programs such as LOTO, Hazard Communication, Hearing Conservation, Hot Work, etc.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
Minimum of 5 years of experience in an environmental, health, and safety role within the manufacturing, construction, or utility sectors
Experience working in a unionized environment
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation is a plus
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
