Safety Manager
We are seeking an accomplished Safety Manager to oversee the safety program at a large power generation facility in New York City. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating the implementation of various safety programs and processes at the facility. Additionally, you will ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, policies, and work towards continuous improvement in key performance indicators and objectives.
Primary Responsibilities (but not limited to):
· Lead compliance reviews, conduct risk assessments, and other safety assessments to support Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) management.
· Participate in incident investigations and perform Root Cause Analysis.
· Assist in ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
· Provide guidance and recommendations on safety matters to plant management.
· Assist in developing and delivering relevant safety training programs.
· Comply with safety regulations, utilize required safety equipment, promote safe work practices, address hazards immediately, or report them to the appropriate personnel.
· Maintain positive and proactive relationships with managers, union employees, and regulatory agencies.
Plant-specific Responsibilities (but Not Limited To):
· Regularly inspect the operating areas to establish a visible EH&S presence and offer support.
· Conduct routine safety meetings and trainings, and schedule additional sessions as necessary.
· Develop, implement, and manage safety programs, policies, and procedures specific to the plant.
· Perform regular safety inspections of the plant.
· Evaluate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure its proper use and maintenance.
· Have a comprehensive understanding of and enforce compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, EPA) and company policies and procedures related to EH&S.
· Assist in emergency response and provide first aid treatment when necessary.
· Contribute to the development of Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) processes.
· Aid in managing and maintaining compliance programs such as LOTO, Hazard Communication, Hearing Conservation, and Hot Work, among others.
Qualifications/Requirements:
· Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
· Minimum of 5 years of experience in an Environmental, Health and Safety role within a manufacturing, construction, or utility setting
Experience working in a unionized work environment
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
