Job Description
An established accounting and consulting firm is in search of a highly skilled Senior Tax Manager – Income Tax (SALT) to join their State and Local Tax (SALT) group. This firm has been recognized as one of the top performers in the western region, delivering exceptional client service and demonstrating industry expertise. In this role, the Senior Tax Manager will spearhead income tax projects and oversee sales tax initiatives, including reviews of nexus and taxability, state and local audits, reverse audits (refund reviews), and preparation of advanced technical tax memoranda. This position entails managing client engagements, mentoring team members, and actively contributing to the firm's efforts in practice development.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough technical tax reviews and approvals of income tax returns for entities such as C Corps, S Corps, LLCs, and Partnerships across multiple states.
- Perform nexus and apportionment reviews and offer expert technical tax advice.
- Supervise and oversee tax research projects, ensuring accurate and efficient outcomes.
- Participate actively in client meetings and collaborate on tax planning initiatives with Partners and Directors.
- Manage governmental tax examinations and represent clients in interactions with taxing authorities.
- Ensure adherence to punctual billing and collection processes.
- Stay updated on economic, political, and legislative trends impacting tax regulations and client businesses.
- Research and evaluate tax software tools, and make recommendations for enhancements to Partners.
- Contribute to practice development through networking, community involvement, and participation in industry activities.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Develop, coach, and mentor a team of Supervising Seniors, Seniors, and Staff Accountants.
- Deliver informative presentations on tax matters at conferences or through articles.
- Lead training and development initiatives for staff in the Tax Department.
Qualifications
- Progressive public accounting experience of 8-12 years, with a sharp increase in tax scope, research, and client representation complexity.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in representing clients before taxing authorities.
- At least 2 years' experience in supervising and directing tax preparers.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; Master's degree in Taxation preferred.
- Completion of a minimum of 40 hours of continuing education annually.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current tax laws and key issues in sales tax.
- Proficiency in tax research and preparation software.
