Scrap Yard Manager [Johnstown, Altoona, Cresson area]

$55,000 - $70,000 + Quarterly Bonuses + 12% on 401K

This position entails the supervision, maintenance, and management of the scrap yard operations. The responsibilities include overseeing material intake, processing, packaging, and shipping.

The ideal candidate demonstrates the capability to develop and execute strategies to enhance productivity and profitability while fostering strong relationships with customers and team members.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED required;
  • Basic understanding of cost accounting principles;
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in the manufacturing industry;
  • Preferably, experience in a supervisory/management role.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proven effective communication skills for working, motivating, and building relationships with others and customers;
  • Self-motivated individual who takes initiative, multitasks, and meets deadlines;
  • Working knowledge of scrap, operations, scrap grading, transportation, and pricing;
  • Familiarity with industrial equipment and its maintenance;
  • Proficiency in operating forklifts, skid steers, or other heavy machinery;
  • Ability to recognize workplace hazards;

 

JOB DUTIES:

  • Understand and interpret labels and MSDS sheets;
  • History of successful management and supervision of teams resulting in profitable outcomes;
  • Ability to work in various outdoor conditions;
  • Plan and schedule manpower according to business needs while monitoring overtime;
  • Assign tasks to maximize productivity and labor allocation;
  • Motivate, train, and develop a cohesive and productive team;
  • Ensure the maintenance and upkeep of capital investments (e.g., buildings, equipment);
  • Maintain an organized and efficient yard operation;
  • Manage and maintain positive relationships with the public, resolving conflicts as needed.
