Senior Electrical Design Engineer
Our client is a highly successful manufacturer in the electrical power utilities industry. They specialize in producing mechanical and electromechanical products that play a crucial role in maintaining the functionality of our electrical grid. Currently, they are searching for a Lead Electromechanical Systems Engineer with expertise in electrical or electromechanical engineering. This individual will be responsible for designing advanced controller products, including microprocessor-based controls utilized in power distribution automation. These products consist of capacitor controls, source transfer controls, electronic fuses, switchgear controls, and pioneering peer-to-peer feeder restoration systems. As a management position, this role will involve overseeing a small team.
The Senior Electromechanical Design Engineer will assume a leadership position in designing, developing, testing, and providing support for innovative product solutions within the intelligent power grid.
Primary Responsibilities
Create and develop conceptually and detailed product models.
Devise, execute, and document verification and validation test plans, including test methods and acceptance criteria.
Design controller products featuring microprocessor-based controls for power distribution automation applications, encompassing capacitor controls, source transfer controls, electronic fuses, switchgear controls, and innovative peer-to-peer feeder restoration systems.
Develop electronic products tailored for smart grid solutions, incorporating analog and unique power supply designs.
Contribute to packaging, user documentation, safety labels, and product markings.
Perform First Article Inspection and approve part quality based on form, fit, and function.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Possess a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
- Demonstrate 7 to 10 years of hands-on experience in designing, developing, and testing electromechanical products such as Inverters, Drives, Servers, network switches, etc.
- Proficient in circuit board layout on analog and mixed signal boards.
- Experience with manufacturing new electronic products and modifying existing ones.
- Practical knowledge of designing assemblies involving sheet metal, mounting PCBA's, cable harnesses, electrical contacts/terminals/receptacles, springs, and fasteners.
- Skilled in 3D CAD modeling using SolidWorks (sheet metal, plastic, cable).
- Ability to perform tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance and standards such as IEC/UL/CSA/NEMA, National Electric Code, etc.
Preferred:
- Experience and proficiency in using simulation tools for finite element analysis and thermal simulation would be highly advantageous.
- Understanding of EMI/EMC and thermal impact in product design is a plus.
- Desire to design packaging for electronic equipment.
