Job Description:

Our client is a reputable manufacturer in the food and beverage industry, specializing in flavors and ingredients. We are currently seeking an experienced Food Scientist to join our team. As a Senior Flavor Developer, you will play a key role in flavor development, food formulation, product evaluation, validation, and new food application development. This position also offers an opportunity for Corporate Research Chefs (Executive Chefs) from flavor companies or food manufacturers. The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Food Science or Dairy Science, or an AOS in Culinary Science. A Master's degree in Food Science is desired. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and validate flavor and food formulations based on business needs. Collaborate on customer-driven projects to achieve various objectives, such as incorporating new and innovative ingredients, cost reduction, product matching, flavor enhancement, flavor masking, and clean label improvements.
  • Learn and operate processing equipment in the lab and pilot plant with minimal supervision. Scale up formulas from kitchen/lab-scale environment to pilot plant and production.
  • Prepare application kits or develop concepts into demonstrations for sales managers to use during sales visits and trade events.
  • Handle flavor and food formulation projects, ranging from simple to complex, in a timely manner. Collaborate with external customers, internal applications scientists, and other relevant departments to define specific parameters, objectives, and timelines for projects.

Education and/or Experience:

Master's degree (M.S.) in Food Science or equivalent with 0-3 years of experience OR
Bachelor's degree (B.S.) with 3-10 years of experience in food research and development or applications with food ingredient and formulations.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of colleagues, managers, clients, customers, sales, and the general public.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Good general computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft operating software programs (such as Outlook, Excel, Word, and Power Point).
  • Ability to learn to operate analytical instruments and lab and processing equipment.

What we are looking for in a candidate:

  • 5 to 15 years of experience in hands-on benchtop applications.
  • Background in Dairy Science with experience in fermentation chemistry and EMC (enzyme modified cheese).
  • Adaptable, collaborative, and able to work well within a team structure.
  • Ability to effectively respond to management feedback and adapt quickly without resistance.
  • Comfortable working hands-on at the bench for full shifts, five days a week if necessary.
  • Solid knowledge of dairy science, scale-up processes, and spray drying.
  • Maintain a clean workspace and take responsibility for its upkeep.
  • Willingness to learn, contribute, and remain resilient in a complex environment.
