Commercial Construction Senior Superintendent

Job Summary:
The Commercial Construction Senior Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all field operations across a designated trade, discipline, or an entire construction project. This role is critical in coordinating safety, schedule, quality, and budget performance, while leading and mentoring field staff and junior team members. The Senior Superintendent works closely with project management and engineers to ensure successful execution and delivery of the project.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate field operations with owner representatives, architects, engineers, inspectors, and subcontractors.

  • Manage and schedule the work of trades, laborers, and professionals; communicate assignments clearly through project staff.

  • Conduct preconstruction meetings with subcontractors for each phase of work.

  • Plan manpower and personnel needs on site.

  • Lead daily toolbox talks and safety briefings.

  • Oversee project safety, quality assurance, risk management, and regulatory compliance.

  • Coordinate and manage equipment needs (e.g., cranes, trailers, trucks) for the job site.

  • Direct weekly work activities for all trade crews.

  • Interpret and utilize contract documents, project drawings, and specifications.

  • Develop and maintain the site logistics plan.

  • Define scopes of work for trade partners.

  • Perform constructability reviews.

  • Monitor field progress and develop recovery plans as necessary.

  • Manage project close-out activities, including punch list completion and turnover procedures.

  • Lead coordination and owners’ meetings.

  • Participate in the creation and management of project CPM schedules, including short-term look-ahead planning.

  • Review quantity takeoffs and oversee materials management during the buyout process.

  • Track milestone completion and project progress.


Safety Responsibilities:

  • Promote and enforce adherence to Yates Safety Procedures and OSHA regulations.

  • Refuse and report unsafe work conditions.

  • Wear and maintain proper personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Report all incidents, near misses, and hazards.

  • Actively participate in workplace inspections, safety training, and prestart meetings.

  • Support the implementation of the site-specific safety program and ensure trade partner compliance.

  • Contribute suggestions for improving job site safety.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred (relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree).

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the construction industry.

  • Proven experience managing scopes of work valued at $20MM or more.

  • Strong background in planning, scheduling, and execution of complex construction projects.

  • Understanding of business and financial aspects of project management.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).

  • Ability to interpret technical documents including blueprints, specifications, and installation instructions.
