Education:
- Minimum: Master’s degree in Mental Health, Social Work, Nursing, or Art Therapy, or Masters in Psychology. Preferred: PhD.
Licensure:
- Required: New York State License in Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, Nursing, or Creative Arts Therapy; Valid NYS Driver's License with a clean record according to organizational policy. Certification: BLS required through the RQI system during clinical orientation. CPI certification within 90 days of hire.
Experience:
- Minimum: 1 year of experience in a mental health or hospital setting. Preferred: 3 years of experience in a mental health setting.
Position Summary:
- The Clinical Therapist collaborates with clients, either individually or in groups, to address their mental health concerns. Applying their knowledge and skills, the therapist aids clients in their recovery and management of their illness. Establishing therapy boundaries, creating a comfortable and safe environment, and fostering a caring therapeutic culture are among the responsibilities of the therapist. They conduct comprehensive assessments, collect data, and develop clinical formulations to guide the treatment plan. Together with the client and their family, the therapist sets treatment goals and identifies interventions and strategies for achieving those goals. Ensuring timely and accurate documentation in the clients' medical record, the therapist coordinates care with colleagues in the clinic and across the continuum of care to secure appropriate treatment resources for the clients' well-being. The Clinical Therapist also participates in the on-call rotation to provide mental health crisis evaluations in emergency departments.
