    As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, you will be responsible for providing patient care services using diagnostic ultrasound. You must have the necessary academic and clinical experience to perform these duties. Your scope of practice includes procedures, acts, and processes permitted by law, and you must demonstrate competency in ultrasound. In this role, you will report to both the Ultrasound Supervisor and Supervising Radiologist.


    ** 1. You will operate sonographic equipment effectively and perform diagnostic examinations. Follow departmental protocol to conduct all ordered sonographic examinations as directed by the attending physician.

    ** 2. You will be responsible for the daily operations of the ultrasound department, which includes managing patient schedules, equipment maintenance, reporting equipment failures, ensuring adequate supplies, and conducting quality assessment activities. Collaborate with the Ultrasound Supervisor and complete billing forms and any necessary clerical duties.

    ** 3. Uphold high medical ethics standards and continually increase your understanding and knowledge of the field and new procedures. Maintain knowledge and understanding of anatomy and pathology as they relate to your work.

    ** 4. Use independent judgment to acquire the best diagnostic information and accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.

    ** 5. Analyze previous imaging, synthesize sonographic information and medical history, and communicate diagnostic information to attending physicians. Integrate diagnostic sonographic data, laboratory results, patient history and medical records, and adapt sonographic examination as necessary.

    ** 6. Communicate effectively with patients and the healthcare team. Take responsibility for ensuring the safety, mental well-being, and physical comfort of patients during sonographic examinations. Recognize the special nature of these exams and address patient needs accordingly.

    ** 7. Assist physicians with invasive procedures using sterile technique when necessary.

    ** 8. Prepare preliminary reports and contact referring providers as required, following established procedures.

    ** 9. Maintain appropriate appearance and hygiene in the work area.

    1. Uphold required Continuing Medical Education (CME) standards and attend all mandatory in-house education programs.

    ** 11. Understand and demonstrate the importance of meeting customer/patient needs by interacting in a friendly and caring manner, being attentive to psychological and physical needs, and maintaining communication to ensure a secure and pleasant experience for the customer.

    12. Maintain competency in High Level Disinfection of Intercavitary probes following the established policy.

  • Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program with eligibility to take ARDMS exam.


  • Currently certified by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in the appropriate specialty(ies).

  • Compliance with Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements for the appropriate specialty(ies).


  • At least one year of full-time experience is required.


  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required within 90 days of hire.


    You must have emotional and physical health sufficient to meet the demands of the position. Your strength must be sufficient to lift some patients, move heavy equipment on wheels (up to approximately 500 lbs), and transport patients in wheelchairs and stretchers. You must also be able to maintain prolonged arm positions necessary for scanning.
