Sr. Capital Project Engineer (Manufacturing)

Salary - $125,000 - $150,000 + Relocation Package
At our company's Wahpeton, ND facility, we are seeking a Senior Manufacturing Project Engineer for our food ingredients and bio-industrial business. Our goal is to anticipate trends in taste, nutrition, and safety to provide innovative solutions to manufacturers, retailers, and foodservice companies.
Objective and Impact of the Job
As a Senior Capital Project Engineer, you will be responsible for planning, supporting, and executing capital project engineering tasks in our Wahpeton, ND facility. This facility comprises several departments including wet mills, animal feed, utilities, and sweetener refinery.
Your main focus will be on mid-sized capital projects, from design to startup. You will oversee construction management, ensuring safety, schedule adherence, efficiency, cost management, and documentation. Additionally, you will help develop and apply engineering standards, project management procedures, and provide expert advice within your engineering expertise. You will also take charge of the site's capital budget.
Main Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of capital project scope, schedule, and budget in accordance with project management deliverables and best practices.
  • Develop a five-year capital plan for the site and manage the project portfolio.
  • Coordinate staffing and development of construction, commissioning, and start-up plans. Provide assistance with troubleshooting and optimization activities.
  • Perform process engineering for individual projects to achieve project objectives.
  • Lead equipment specification and procurement. Develop, review, and award bid packages for equipment and labor.
  • Analyze and propose solutions to engineering problems related to manufacturing equipment and systems, as well as component failures.
  • Design and enhance manufacturing processes, instruments, and equipment. Test manufactured products to maintain quality standards.
  • Independently handle complex issues with minimal supervision, escalating only the most complex problems to appropriate staff.
  • Informally lead, mentor, and coach early-career engineers through hands-on training and project work.
Perform any other duties assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience
  • At least four years of relevant work experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Ag/Biosystems Engineering
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully execute capital projects or manage project portfolios.
  • Prior experience in the chemical, food, or related industries
  • Ability and interest in working hands-on in a fast-paced and technically advanced plant environment.
  • Experience in leading others through project work, including mentoring, coaching, or supervising.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certified or willingness to obtain certification within the first two years.
