Sr. Capital Project Engineer

Location: Fort Dodge, IA
Starting Salary: $100,000 to $120,000 USD, plus relocation package

The Senior Project Engineer (Capital focus) will be responsible for planning, supporting, and executing capital project engineering tasks at our bio-refinery campus located in Fort Dodge, IA. Our Fort Dodge site is part of our corn milling and texturizing solutions business and encompasses five different departments, from corn milling to ethanol production.
You will primarily focus on mid to large-scale capital projects from initial design to startup, while overseeing construction management. The key considerations will be safety, schedule efficiency, cost management, and documentation. Additionally, you will develop and apply engineering standards and project management procedures, providing guidance on engineering-related issues.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of project scope, schedule, and budget, adhering to project management best practices and deliverables.
  • Coordinate staffing and formulate construction, commissioning, and start-up plans, providing support for troubleshooting and optimization activities.
  • Perform process engineering for individual projects to successfully achieve project objectives.
  • Lead equipment specification and procurement, and create, review, and award bid packages for equipment and labor.
  • Analyze and develop solutions for engineering problems related to manufacturing equipment, systems, or component failures.
  • Design and enhance manufacturing processes, instruments, and equipment, and conduct product testing to maintain quality standards.
  • Independently handle complex issues with minimal supervision, escalating only the most challenging problems to appropriate staff.
  • Informally mentor and coach early career engineers through hands-on training and project collaboration.

  • Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of four years of relevant work experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of eight years of relevant engineering experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Ag/Biosystems or related Engineering field
  • Demonstrated ability to execute large capital projects or manage a portfolio of projects
  • Prior experience in the chemical, food, or related industry
  • Willingness to travel domestically to other network plants and locations to support capital project work
  • Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced and technically driven plant environment
