Position Summary:

The Senior Automation Engineer plays a key role in leading, delivering, developing, and implementing automation projects. This position involves designing and specifying DCS/Logic Solver PLC components and networking requirements, creating functional narratives and system specifications, and producing relevant documents. The Senior Automation Engineer is also responsible for troubleshooting and conducting root cause analysis for control system-related issues.

Education:

A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience, is required.

Professional Engineer registration is desired, but not required.

Key Attributes:

  • Participate in the engineering and selection process for control systems on projects of various sizes.
  • Take charge of engineering, designing, and selecting overall control systems.
  • Ability to outline and detail the subject system philosophy for large projects.
  • Implement company standards, procedures, and tools.
  • Thorough understanding and application of client and safety policies.


Core Competencies:

  • Assume technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating assignments.
  • Perform specialized technical work involving the development of systems engineering, distributive and/or computer controls of processes.
  • Establish basic design and specifications for control systems and associated instrumentation.
  • Implement control concepts as required.
  • Keep the Project Leads/Manager informed of scope changes and design deviations.
  • Participate in overall control system design work, including installation drawings and details, loops drawings, logic diagrams, and vendor drawings.
  • DCS:
    1. Proficiency in DCS graphics, database, and configuration (Honeywell preferred, plus others)
    2. Familiarity with P&IDs, Logic Diagrams, Cause / Effect matrices, and Functional Narratives
    3. Test procedure development
    4. Cutovers/loop checks
    5. Startup assistance/troubleshooting
    6. Operations/maintenance training
  • PLC / HMI Programming:
    1. PLC programming (Allen Bradley CLX and PLC5 preferred, plus others)
    2. HMI programming (PanelView and RSView preferred, plus others)
    3. Familiarity with P&IDs, Logic Diagrams, Cause / Effect matrices, and Functional Narratives
    4. Test procedure development
    5. Cutovers/loop checks
    6. Startup assistance/troubleshooting
    7. Operations/maintenance training
  • Safety System Logic Solvers
    1. Logic Solver programming (Triconex Platform preferred, plus others)
    2. Logic Validation Software programming (Schneider Safety Validator preferred, plus others)
    3. Familiarity with P&ID’s, Logic Diagrams, Cause / Effect matrices, and Functional Narratives
    4. Test procedure development
    5. Cutovers/loop checks
    6. Startup assistance/troubleshooting
    7. Operations/maintenance training
