Senior Design Technician

Job Summary

Join our team as a Senior Design Technician and contribute to the planning and development of architectural designs and documentation. In this role, you will be responsible for producing design and documentation, while also providing guidance to junior staff members.

Essential Functions

Experienced Architectural Professional (Over 10 Years’ Experience, Unlicensed)

  • Qualifications: Hold a professional degree in Architecture and possess at least 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Client Interaction: Display the ability to liaise directly with clients and present technical and design solutions.
  • Project Execution: Collaborate closely with Project Managers to execute project plans, overseeing the design and technical aspects of the team's work.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Apply comprehensive knowledge of architectural principles across a wide range of assignments.
  • Work independently, demonstrating expertise in architectural methods and complexities.
  • Maintain regular communication with the project team to ensure smooth information flow and keep everyone informed of any client activities impacting the project.
  • Lead meetings to ensure timely completion of deliverables and adherence to deadlines.
  • Participate in meetings with clients and project teams, showcasing excellent coordination skills with consultants and internal teams.
  • Interpret, organize, and execute assigned projects or project phases.
  • Supervise a small team of architects and technicians, providing guidance and support.
  • Prepare meeting notes, digitally file materials, and promote these practices within the project team.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in self-checking work and coordinating with the client project team and consultants.
  • Develop work plans and scheduling strategies with the client team, ensuring adherence to established project schedules.
  • Conduct presentations to clients, both in person and virtually, taking a leadership role in these interactions.
  • Show excellent time management skills, allowing you to work on multiple projects simultaneously.

Project Involvement

  • Generate planning and creative design concepts for projects, preparing presentation and design drawings and details.
  • Utilize your experience to develop details and provide planning and design support for design documentation.
  • Create and develop building design drawings and compile information to create comprehensive project documentation.
  • Manage document preparation timing and schedules, ensuring adherence to project schedules and deadlines under the guidance of the Project Manager.
  • Take the lead as a Document Team Leader on selected projects.
  • Gather and assemble data necessary for drawing completion, including field verification of measurements when required.
  • Coordinate structural, electrical, and mechanical drawings and specifications with architectural drawings and specifications, working closely with engineers and the specifications group.
  • Provide technical expertise throughout schematic, design development, and construction documentation, ensuring accurate and coordinated project documentation.
  • Conduct research on materials and incorporate accurate information into drawings and the project cut book, collaborating with the specifications group.
  • Offer insights on possible material and design choices that may benefit the overall project in terms of design or cost.
  • Assist in preparing specifications and review them at the completion of each project phase.
  • Contribute to Quality Control reviews within the office.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of local and state building and fire codes, preparing Code Survey and Code Drawings for the project and communicating any design and code conflicts to the team.
  • Navigate through local zoning and approvals processes, supporting the Project Manager in adhering to all necessary requirements.
  • Possess experience in performing construction administration tasks, such as shop drawing review, RFIs, and document modifications.


  • Participate in the preparation of proposal/interview materials to secure new business opportunities.
  • Support new business development opportunities by providing expert technical knowledge.
  • Take on special projects and duties as assigned or requested.

Job Requirements and Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Hold a professional Bachelor of Architecture degree or a master’s degree in architecture.
  • Have at least 10 years of experience in architectural practice or a related position.
  • Demonstrate at least 8 years of experience in creating design solutions.

Training Requirements (Licenses, Programs, or Certificates)

  • Possess advanced computer and information management skills.
  • Proficient in using Revit, AutoCAD (current versions), and MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, MS Project).
  • Capability in 3D rendering.
