Sr District Operations Manager / Transportation & Hauling
Job Summary
As the Senior Manager of District Operations / Transportation and Hauling, you will have the responsibility of overseeing the financial performance and productivity of multiple Operating Units. Your main objective will be to ensure that these Operating Units meet or surpass their annual goals. Additionally, you will be responsible for the successful implementation of organizational initiatives. In this position, you will also play a key role in the onboarding, development, coaching, mentoring, and performance management of all District Managers.
This position is based in Waterloo and will require travel between Waterloo, Mount Forest, London, and Sarnia, as these are the sites you will be overseeing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement an operating plan for your assigned area of responsibility, aligning it with long-term objectives and enhancing effectiveness.
- Support the professional growth of your direct reports.
- Continuously review and evaluate the performance of your assigned area of responsibility, establishing appropriate performance measures.
- Provide guidance and direction to managers on program execution, and make necessary adjustments to work plans or implementation strategies based on prevailing business conditions.
- Create operating unit budgets in a timely manner, accurately forecasting financial and human resource needs.
- Assist managers in optimizing the budget and ensure compliance with budget requirements.
- Oversee the recruitment, training, and evaluation of department personnel, and provide input regarding termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
- Efficiently organize and allocate necessary resources for successful completion of activities.
- Participate in regular Profit and Loss (P&L) reviews and implement prescribed programs to optimize routing equipment utilization, equipment maintenance, and labor and material costs.
- Establish and maintain programs that improve safety, productivity, and profitability within the Market Area, ensuring compliance with Ministry of Transportation (MTO)/Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) regulations as well as other Federal and Provincial regulations.
Qualifications
- Educational Requirement: You must have at least an Associate's Degree (accredited), or in lieu of a degree, a High School Diploma/GED or equivalent and two (2) years of relevant work experience.
- Work Experience: In addition to the educational requirement, you should have a minimum of 5 years of previous experience in Operations Management, with at least three years of experience managing a team of two or more individuals.
- Preferred Experience: It would be advantageous if you have experience in a senior operations leadership role, specifically managing Managers and overseeing multiple sites.
Requirements
- You must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record throughout your employment in this position.
- You should have experience in a role involving operations, customer service, community relations, health and safety, financial and human resources functions. Additionally, experience as a supervisor or manager, implementing safety (OH&S) programs and equipment specifications, preparing and managing budgets, as well as resolving labor relations issues is required.
