Sr. Regulatory & Compliance Specialist (Food Mfg quality)

Job Summary: The Senior Quality Control Specialist in the food manufacturing industry is responsible for ensuring compliance with all food safety and regulatory requirements. They also assist the Senior QA Manager in developing and implementing Food Safety Programs, including the SQF program, and oversee the certification maintenance. They are responsible for conducting annual re-assessments, maintaining and updating processes and work instructions, and ensuring the accuracy of program documents.

Education & Experience:

A Bachelor’s degree in food science or a related field is required, or a minimum of 5 years of experience in QA.

A minimum of 5 years of experience in Food Manufacturing is required.

Experience with guidelines and requirements from USDA, FDA, or CA Dept. of Food & Agriculture is required.

SQF Certified Practitioner preferred

Experience with HACCAP, SQF, HARPC preferred

Experience working with Kosher, Organic, GFCO and AIB/NSF programs.

Bilingual- Spanish/English a plus.

Trainings/ Certifications Required:

HARPC/ PCQI Certified

SQF Implementation & Auditing Certified

SQF Internal Auditing Training

Essential Functions/ Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provide support to the Senior QA Manager as needed for all QA activities.

2. Enforce compliance with company rules, policies, and procedures.

3. Collaborate with the Senior QA Manager to develop and implement Safe Quality Food (SQF) programs, including HACCP, Food Safety, Food Quality, and Food Defense plans.

4. Ensure compliance with Food Safety & SQF program standards.

5. Manage SQF readiness, Co-Packer, and Supplier quality communication.

6. Maintain and organize all daily SQF documents and paperwork.

7. Conduct food safety and quality training, including Good Manufacturing Practices, for contractors, new hires, and current employees, as well as other required SQF training.

8. Conduct annual reviews of the plant SQF Manual and ensure updates are made to the associated sub-elements and registers.

9. Assist in preparing for and participating in annual SQF certification audits.

10. Conduct food safety and quality meetings, document meeting notes, and follow up on action items to ensure completion.

11. Provide technical quality and food safety data to senior management and operations for customer requests and surveys.

12. Serve as the company representative for FDA, USDA, CDFA, and sanitation audits.

13. Serve as the company representative for SQF, organic, kosher, halal, gluten free, non-GMO, and customer audits.

14. Conduct mock recalls and internal audits.

15. Collect, review, and ensure the proper completion of audit paperwork.

16. Lead and participate in problem-solving activities related to food safety.

17. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, company policies (including GMPs), and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

18. Reassess and re-validate process procedures (SOPs) when implementing process or product changes.

19. Collaborate with QA, Training, Process Systems, and Production personnel on any new changes to the Work Instructions.

20. Effectively communicate any changes, modifications, or updates to managers, supervisors, leads, and other personnel.

21. Keep personnel motivated, productive, and well-informed.

22. Maintain excellent and professional employee relations.

23. Promote teamwork at all levels and between departments.

24. Perform other assigned duties as required.
