Sr. Safety & Security Manager
Responsibilities: As the Senior Manager of Safety and Security, you will collaborate with operational leadership to ensure effective safety, health, and security solutions. Your main focus will be on the Lewiston, NC food manufacturing complex and other facilities in eastern NC. By continuously improving safety processes, you will help maintain a world-class culture. Your specific responsibilities include:
· Leading all safety and security efforts for the Lewiston manufacturing complex and Eastern North Carolina field operations.
· Managing safety for live production, garage, transportation operations, and non-manufacturing facilities near the primary assignment in coordination with the regional safety director. You will support 1800 full-time employees.
· Directly leading and managing daily activities and personnel matters of the facility and its security contract personnel.
· Leading the facility security team and guard force in managing security processes, including the development and administration of site security practices and policies. You will also support training objectives, site surveys, and audits.
· Providing technical expertise for cross-functional teams to ensure safe operational processes and capital/engineering projects. You will collaborate with vehicle safety experts, corporate security, environmental, PSM, and other areas to align facility activities and objectives. Your knowledge of regulations such as OSHA, NFPA, DHS, and DOT will be crucial in ensuring compliance.
· Maintaining continuous interaction with the hourly workforce to promote safety awareness, drive associate engagement, and foster a world-class safety culture. You will actively resolve safety issues and concerns.
· Leading the development of the site safety business plan by analyzing relevant data and tracking/reporting facility and corporate KPIs/metrics. You will also oversee internal safety and security audits, ensuring action plans are implemented and findings are addressed.
· Providing training support to the organization and ensuring timely completion of all required safety training.
Ensuring effective investigations are conducted for all safety and security incidents. You will actively participate in complex and high-impact investigations, determining root causes and developing corrective actions. Your focus will be on addressing hazards and emerging trends based on incident data.
Being a leader and member of the incident command team, you will be responsible for responding to and directing emergency response activities.
Acting as a liaison for third-party assessments, audits, and inspections, such as those conducted by insurance carriers, the local fire department, risk engineering firms, OSHA, and DHS.
Building and maintaining relationships with occupational health/medical professionals to enhance worker safety, associate wellness, and case management for supported sites. You will actively participate in worker's compensation management, supporting the occupational health nurse and third-party administrator.
Requirements: A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Safety & Health, Industrial Health Management, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field such as Safety Engineering is required. A Master’s degree in Environment, Safety & Health is preferred. Additionally, you must have at least 10 years of experience in manufacturing safety management with multi-site responsibility. Other qualifications include:
Proven experience leading a highly successful safety program with a TRIR below 2.0.
Thorough knowledge of OSHA requirements.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills to motivate employees, communicate objectives, and develop action plans.
Ability to research relevant facts, data, and other information from various sources.
Previous experience with SAP is a plus.
Ability to implement behavioral-based safety techniques to improve and maintain safety performance.
Valid 40-hour HAZWOPER certification and current annual 8-hour HAZWOPER refresher training.
CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain it.
Bilingualism in English, Spanish, and/or French is preferred.
Certification from the Board of Safety Professionals (CSP) or the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) is preferred.
