Stormwater Engineer (Technical Lead)
📍 Primary: Chicago, IL or Peoria, IL | Additional Locations: Crown Point, IN; Indianapolis, IN | Hybrid Work Schedule

As a Stormwater Engineer (Technical Lead), you’ll play a vital role in managing technical stormwater and floodplain projects across Illinois and Indiana—while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating across disciplines.


🔑 Must-Have Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering

  • 8–12 years of experience in water resources/stormwater engineering

  • Licensed PE in Illinois and/or Indiana

  • Proven technical leadership on stormwater and floodplain projects

  • Hands-on experience with stormwater system design and management

  • Expertise in hydraulic analysis for open stream systems

  • Strong background in roadway drainage and flood mitigation

  • Proficiency with HEC-RAS and SWMM modeling tools

  • A project portfolio showcasing relevant technical leadership


Nice-to-Haves:

  • Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) credential

  • Experience in erosion control, floodplain management, and MicroStation (AutoCAD a plus)


💼 Role Overview:

As the Technical Lead, you’ll drive hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, design stormwater systems for municipal and roadway projects, and lead erosion and sediment control strategies. You’ll work closely with clients, mentor team members, and collaborate on a wide range of civil engineering initiatives.


🛠 Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead H&H analyses for floodplains, floodways, bridges, and culverts

  • Identify and solve stormwater/flooding issues with innovative, cost-effective designs

  • Design systems for stormwater conveyance, detention, and water quality

  • Oversee soil erosion and sediment control plans

  • Serve as technical lead, guiding engineers/technicians and reviewing work quality

  • Develop reports, cost estimates, construction documents, and project plans

  • Collaborate with internal teams and maintain strong client/vendor relationships

  • Mentor junior staff and support professional development
