JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title Junior Structural Engineer I
OVERVIEW:
We are seeking a motivated Junior Structural Engineer to join our team in Englewood, CO. In this role, you will be responsible for analyzing and designing structures for projects in the mining industry. Your work will help meet project and client requirements and ensure compliance with design criteria and codes.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Show technical expertise in the structural engineering field
2. Meet project time and budget goals
3. Perform specific portions of engineering assignments using standard practices and techniques
a. Design and ensure code compliance for structural systems or projects
b. Assist with initial structural layouts and beam sizing
c. Help with material take-off estimates for proposals
d. Communicate necessary structural information to prepare project drawings and specifications
e. Understand material specifications and relevant steel and building codes
f. Develop and communicate structural details and propose alternate framing solutions
g. Perform structural analysis and design for various equipment and their foundations
h. Prepare design criteria including all relevant loads
i. Prepare structural drawings in CAD software
j. Prepare material take-offs and bills of material lists
k. Review vendor documents for structural components

QUALIFICATIONS:
To be considered for this position, you should meet the following requirements:
Minimum Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree (Structural Engineering) from an accredited college or university, with at least six years of related experience. A Professional Engineering (P.E.) license in good standing is desired, but not required.
Preferred Education/Experience:
A Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university is desired but not required. Knowledge of mining and/or bulk material handling industries is also preferred.
Computer Skills/Experience:
Proficiency in 2D and 3D drawing software such as AutoCAD, Advance Steel, and SolidWorks is desired but not required. Experience with design software like RISA-3D or similar programs would also be beneficial.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
You will review designs of other structural engineers for code and design specification compliance. You may also assist other disciplines with initial structural layouts. Additionally, you will mentor structural engineering interns and beginning engineers.
JOB ELEMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS:
While performing the duties of this job, you will primarily work in an office setting with in-person and telephone contacts. These duties may require frequent interruptions. Travel may be required for various projects both nationally and internationally.
